ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space

I don't see Kenny picking up any big names. Maybe a little move but probably going to save that cap space mostly for Kronwall's and Stuart's raises.

Disagree, only because I think they would have used a lot of the cap space to sign someone to a one year contract in the offseason if that were the case. I would be surprised if they're not major players at the deadline.

Ok just for the guys around here who want to see Parise on the team at the deadline.

What do we give to the Devils for a name like that?

I would love to see Parise come here but Holland and Illitch are more 'Billy Bean' types. Numbers and dollars as opposed to name collecting.

Any trade for a UFA in the 4-6 million per season range is going to involve Smith and a future pick(s). The Wings aren't going to let that happen, though. To be realistic, the Wings are going to have to be content with what they have right now and firm up their 3rd/4th line guys for the playoffs. We have a solid team, but the Bertuzzi's and Holmstrom's of the team need to get their asses squared away and contribute, or make room for the speed we got on the bench. Mursak/Emmerton/Tatar/Nyquist should be gaining experience right now instead of has-beens padding their career stats. Babcock knows this and is trying his best to phase them out.

Sometimes I'm not sure... but if he can do it... good for him. Although I do feel Bert can contribute still when he has his moments of clarity.

I dont expect any moves at the deadline. Would be awesome to pick a big player up and go all out to get Lids one more cup, But wings already have too many players both offense and defense.

I have to say I wouldnt mind shane doan. I sure hated him when he was bulldozing every player on the wings. But he will probably retire a coyote.

hopefully we will just trade away our 1st round pick, or a few of them. we never need them anyway. we use those picks to bring in some decent players, no big name rentals, just some depth shooters and such. hopefully those acquisitions give us just enough to be a championship team instead of just a playoff team. then lids and homer retire after the playoffs and we use the money from their contracts to give kronners and stewie raises, plus sign a few of our prospects. then we contend for the cup again next year. simple.

So awesome. No doubt.

But he's the new Devils captain, you know? That right there is an indication that he's in it for the long haul imo.

If Mike Richards can get traded, Zach Parise easily can.

It's early in the season but right now a deadline-acquisition doesn't look 100% necessary. That could change though, I'm thinking defense mainly.

We're pretty stacked at forwards so to make any real improvement there we'd have to indeed pick up someone like Parise, which I doubt is possible.

Holland will make the right decision though, if a great deal can't be made he'll save the money for the off-season when we might have to replace Lidstrom.

I agree that if the team picks up anything it'll be a sniper. And a big-name, too, if a trade can be worked out. Just imagine the lynch mobs looking for Holland if we end up getting burned in the 1st or second round without having made a move and having all that cap space.

People talking about having too many players are forgetting we'd have to trade to get someone. I don't think picks alone are going to do it. So we'll be bringing in a guy by getting rid of one or two other guys.

So how do you plan on acquiring Parise and Carle? I see you are missing Holmstrom, Miller, Bertuzzi and Stuart and Conklin. So did NHL 11 allow this trade? Because no GM would take those guys in a trade....

You're right about those guys, but a team needing to unload cap space that won't make playoffs in need of a strong center might be willing to part with a second-line scorer for someone like Flip. Or throw in a pick to sweeten the deal.

I don't see Holland making any blockbuster trades. Our quality assets are untouchable and Holland won't trade draft picks unless two or three more picks are coming back.

Also, I think GMs are cautious about the cap for 2012/2013 season and don't want to put themselves in a hole if the cap goes down. Not to mention Holland will be giving out some significant raises to our core players.

I expect no trades unless it's for a no name plug or a waiver pickup.

Wings won't throw in a core player for a rental player. It's not Holland works.

Filppula Won't be traded. Wings Won't get a star player. For a third line scrub last trade deadline it was costing at least a first round pick. Our first round pick last season saw us land a top six forward and a 4-5 DMan this past summer. I honestly just don't see any room for anyone at the moment. Unless we packaged Emmerton and Hudler along a mid tier pick, i don't see anyone of note being traded to us. And with the way Hudler has been playing, I don't think you trade him (Unless he really picks up his game, then we could trade him for a veteran with 3-4 years of good hockey left at the deadline). But the Wings are NOT trading for anyone 27 or under that is really good or has amazing potential. This isn't a G'damn video game.

Personally I'd rather see the Wings hang on to all that money until off-season and see what happens with this seasons players contracts and see who's coming back and who's leaving thant decide who to get and load the roster with some great veteran talent as well as bringing up a few players from GR and getting the right nucleas and core for next season. Since some big contracts are going to be up after this season it would be nice to get loaded up on some top league talent. I'm not saying I'm giving up on this season as far as the Wings getting a Cup but I'd have to believe that next season's team will have a better chance than this season's team.
