P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 TSN.ca The Vancouver Canucks acquired left wing David Booth, centre Steve Reinprecht and a third round draft pick in 2013 from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm. I feel bad for Samuelsson.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Hmmm interesting trade for sure. That makes Matthias, Fleischmann, Kopecky and Samuelsson as all ex Wings (in one way or the other) on the Panthers roster. Wow. Doggy 130 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I can't help but feel Florida got raped. Booth alone made that a good trade.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 TSN.ca I feel bad for Samuelsson. Well he left Detroit for Vancouver in part because he wanted a bigger role. Seems like he'll get it in Florida. 2 wings1110 and LidsFan reacted to this
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I can't help but feel Florida got raped. Booth alone made that a good trade. I dunno. Samuelsson has been more productive offensively the last two seasons than Booth. On the other hand Booth is 8 years younger.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Booth is one of the biggest idiots in the NHL, dude always gets his bell rung from skating with his head down.

They talked to enough Michigan ex-pats in Florida and were just ahead of the curve (before retirement age). Edited October 23, 2011 by Shoreline
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Too bad. Sammy and the Sedins were a great line. The Homliest Swedes Line was fun. Seriously, I don't really understand this trade, but I don't follow Florida enough to figure this out. 1 LidsFan reacted to this
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Good for Booth to finally go somewhere people might appreciate him. Feel bad for Sammy having to go to that AHL club. I thought he was doing great in Vancouver? What happened?

Florida likes vets but they need to be a bit more productive.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 You guys don't think Booth is just one concussion away from turning into Marc Savard? Six more years on Booth's mega-deal, plus an NTC coming next year IIRC. IMO, the Canucks are putting an awful lot of eggs into the Chris Higgins basket and I don't know that that has ever worked out for anyone. Samuelsson is a guy that, for the right price, I wouldn't mind having back with the Wings in case of an injury to the top 6 down the stretch.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Sammy is taking his talents to South Beach. Certainly nicer weather than Vancouver or Detroit. I hope the ladies there are ready for what they are about to receive. Edited October 23, 2011 by GMRwings1983 1 55fan reacted to this
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) I dunno. Samuelsson has been more productive offensively the last two seasons than Booth. On the other hand Booth is 8 years younger. Booth played for Flordia which isn't exactly the powerhouse that Canucks are. A downside I see is Booth's playoff experience. Sammy has some timely goals in the playoffs. With Booth, who knows how he'll produce come playoffs. Edited October 23, 2011 by dragonballgtz

Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Sammy must be crushed. I'm sure he loved playing in Vancouver, a top team in the NHL and with the Sedins and Edler, etc. What's the possibility of him making a giant fuss, not reporting to the team and the Panthers waiving him? Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 23, 2011 What's the possibility of him making a giant fuss, not reporting to the team and the Panthers waiving him? The possibility of that is about as great as him actually making it all the way down to the Wings` spot in the waiver order should the above occur, which is somewhere around zero. Besides, he'd owe Florida another year if he failed to report, and he doesn't really seem like the type anyway.

TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Panthers got hosed in this deal. Booth could def score 30 this year for the Canucks.
hockey23 79 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Kind of a weird trade. I would have expected Florida to be going after younger players, not giving them up. Obviously, they had no confidence in Booth (I can see why) and they wanted to dump his contract. In return they get a couple vets who are an upgrade right now and could fetch them some picks at the deadline.
rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 I was trying to figure out why they had Sammy listed for Fla last night. Makes sense now.
