Pronger injured after high-stick

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

From the video, it looks like Grabovski's stick slides up Pronger's after the shot and hits Pronger near the eye (the puck may have also hit him but you can definitely hear the two sticks striking together). Since Pronger left the game, it's obviously more than just a puck striking him. Plus Bob McKenzie has this on Twitter:

Pronger update: He is seeing an eye specialist but because of swelling, more time will be required for an evaluation. No further details.

Frankly, I want Pronger to leave the NHL because no one wanted him instead of leaving because of injuries that will affect his daily life.

So stepping on someone with your skate isn't an attempt to seriously injure someone?

Neck-break counter:

Pronger: 0

Bertuzzi: 1

Bertuzzi has broken infinity percent more necks than Pronger has.

Although his "physics" hit on Holmstrom was pretty dirty and made Holmstrom even uglier than he already was.

Pronger has a lot worse reputation for repeated dirty plays than Bertuzzi does.

Bertuzzi just got carried away on one play, and the end result wound up being worse than anything Pronger ever did.

But I don't think of Bertuzzi as a career cheap shot artist. Pronger just doesn't seem to give a s*** about some of the stuff he's pulled.

Has he ended anyone's career? no.

Has Bertuzzi? yes.

I think I've said several times Pronger plays dirty. As for the skate stomp, honestly I think Bobby Ryan's was worse than Pronger's. Ryan clearly stomps down with the blade and Pronger mostly grinds his boot. I think it was dirty and suspendable, but in that moment I don't think he was attempting to seriously injure someone, no. I think he lost his cool. the Homer elbow was much more calculated than the stomp.

Either way that still doesn't mean I enjoy him losing an eye.

I never saw a stick hit him in the eye. The video does not support that that I can tell. His left hand grabs the right side of his head. There is NOTHING thus far to indicate a serious injury and the need to start a prayer vigil. I have also stated I would retract my former comment if the need arose. Please get off my back or I'll cancel your membership to my website! :P

In my earlier post I cited McKenzie's twitter which says he's seeing an eye specialist but there's so much swelling they can't evaluate it. So it's likely either an eye injury or a very close call.

Like I said, I guess I just gave Wings fans more credit than they deserve. Seeing a player take a stick to the face, knowing there's a potential eye injury goes beyond how I feel about that player and his rep.

I don't like Pronger like pretty much everybody else in here but I'm not wishing what happened to him on him or anybody. Hope it isn't too serious.

I respect those who loathe the guy with an extreme, I get it and it's perfectly legit given his past, but I can't go there with this. If that makes me too "nice" or not Wings fannish or whatever for not just fully loathing him or wanting him to rot in hell, well I'm sorry.

I apologize. I personally saw nothing in the video that made an eye injury seem possible and actually stated as such several posts back. All I have to go on is what I see on a choppy video, so that's what I'm sticking to for now. The swelling could be his cheek and have nothing to do with the eye other than making it hard to see. I do hope it's not serious, but with the information at hand, I continue to prescribe Motrin and ice. If it is more injurious than I currently believe, I will put "Mea Culpa" in my sig and a picture of Pronger. Okay? Contrary to obviously popular public opinion, I am not a hard-hearted *****. Well, not hard-hearted, anyway. :P Much like He Who Shall Not Be Named, I do not wish him ill will - just looking forward to his retirement.

That is a scary play. That's why I always rock the cage on the ice. I wonder if he will ware a visor now? I wonder if a visor would have even helped on this play? I have seen sticks come up and get under the visor and do some damage. You only get two looking balls, I hope both of his are ok.

Update from NHL.com

Sounds like he's at least got partial vision in that eye now, and signs are pointing in the right direction for him. He'll be out 2-3 weeks though to evaluate the situation, and get that boy fitted for a visor.

-insert cheap joke about how he'll cheap shot even more whilst behind said visor- :P

I loathe Chris Pronger. I hope he's not seriously injured, but I still loathe him. I can hate you and hope you don't die all at the same time.

but god forbid elmo, jesus, lolcats, or steve yzerman himself offended someone though, cause you would be all over their ass... laughable

Ah, so that's what happened - I wondered if he got hit in the eye since that seems like it'd be the one thing that would make him react like that. Hope he's okay - I don't want to see anybody in the NHL lose an eye (or anybody else, for that matter...except maybe Hitler, but he's kinda dead now). Still don't like him, but y'know.

Moore has kept the whole thing going. Several years ago, he was offered a contract and turned it down. He could be playing right now, but he chooses to be a whine ass about the whole thing. He's in it for the money.

TSN.ca

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told TSN that Pronger saw an eye specialist at the arena. Pronger will be on bed rest for three to four days out of concern for possible blood pooling. The Flyers hope that Pronger will get back in two to three weeks depending on how the injury heals, and said that he will need to wear a visor to be cleared to play.

The team said that Pronger complained of blurred vision after the incident on Monday.

"I think he was very scared and rightly so," Holmgren told the Associated Press. "When something like that happens to your eye, you're worried about what's going on. I think he settled down over a period of time and was fine when he left."

Omg! an eye patch will be perfect for Pronger's evilness :pirate:

But seriously, I hope this isn't serious. As much as I think he should be in jail (he would probably thrive their and love it anyway), he is a fantastic hockey player and I hope he gets to play for many many more years. The guy is just one heck of a complete defense-man, a respected adversary and rival, and a helluva leader with such a huge personality that I love to see in hockey. Get well soon chrissy poo!!!

False. Burke offered him a minor league contract when he wasn't even medically cleared to play, either just to taunt Moore or for the press and positioning for a lawsuit, so people will only remember "moore turned down a contract." Evidently it worked.

Back on topic regarding Pronger, I hate the guy, but really just when the Wings are playing him. He got absolutely schooled a few nights ago when someone scored and I laughed out loud. He's basically a Chris Chelios. Talented player who has had several instances where he goes way over the line. Or for those who remember, he's like the player Harold Snepsts but with 10 times the talent. But I don't want him to lose an eyeball. The league is better with him in it. It needs villians and Pronger is a good one and a good player.

I'm 29, so you can cross out Elmo. I'm an atheist, so you can cross out Jesus. I don't think lolcats are particularly that funny, so you can cross that out too. If Steve Yzerman said something offensive, I'd be embarrassed as a fan. So you can cross that off too.

Well, I guess that leaves you with no point. Nicely done.

Phew:

"Doctors report he'll be healthy and throwing game pucks in the garbage in no time."
