Anyone else have a feeling that we'd lose tonight?

Before the game tonight, I just had a feeling that we were gonna lose. Conklin starting, Columbus hadn't won yet, Wiszniewski's first game, CBJ were hyped to play Detroit, and above all, it has seemed the last couple of years that the Wings don't just have one flat game but multiple flat games in a row before they straighten it out. I wasn't surprised that we lost tonight......

It did seem like Columbus first win would come against us, with 2 games in such a short span they were almost bound to win one. With the reasons you mention, mainly Conklin starting and Wiz having his first game, yeah I wasn't expecting a win in this one.

It's not like the Jackets have anything to be proud of, they're 1-7-1 for crying out loud. They want to forget about this and move onto the next one, they still have 6 games to win to try and make that 7 look moderately non-horrific. Even s***ty teams win every once in a while, usually.

Your right in the aspect of they have a lot of ground to make up. They CAN be proud however of their win, and why not they played a good game last nite and Mason was good as well. Their young kids looked good, and with Wiz back the Jackets D looks a little deeper. It's only 1 win but they did it convincingly.

I rarely think about winning or losing this way. In a lengthy season, you are going to lose games at some point. Sometimes expectedly or to good teams, sometimes to teams that will probably be mediocore throughout the course of a season. Doesn't make it right or wrong, that's just how it is for pretty much any team in a league with such a long season.

I kind of had that feeling, but I had no idea their rookies would destroy us and a goalie who has never played in the NHL would shut us down for a period. It seems like crappy teams always break their crappiness against the Wings.

I'm not too concerned though. It's not like football where you can basically predict who will win, and who beats who actually matters. You can lose to the crappiest team in the league in hockey and still be a great team. In hockey, any team can win any given night.

I was hoping we would overcome it and come out with a win anyway, but the way the NHL these days works, I made this prediction to my buddy before the game;

Since the poor widdle Blue Jackets still haven't won a game (and on top of that are playing the mean old Red Wings) you can bet your ass the refs are going to give them a s*** ton of power plays ( I predicted between 7-10 going to the the BJs and only 1-3 going to the Wings) to try to help them get their first win.

Its sad that the NHL and refs are so predictable these days. You already know when they are going to try to tilt a game with their calls.

I just don't understand the hard-on a bunch of LGWers have for him. He can't steal you games, and in my mind you have to win in-spite of him most nights.

Again, it is not Conklin's fault the Wings lost these last two games. Sure he played poorly, but he was one of MANY Red Wings who played poorly. The Wings would have lost both games regardless of who played goal, because they simply didn't play as good as their opponents did.

While I agree that it sucks to see the Bluejackets first win of the year coming against our Wings, it's important to keep things in perspective. CBJ fans are hardly going to be running around celebrating merely beating the Wings when their first win should have come games ago.

He's a Red Wing, thus I want him to do well. I don't care if he's the worst player on the team - when he's on the ice, I want him to succeed. Most people here know I carry no love for Todd Bertuzzi, but that doesn't mean I hope he sucks. If he sucks, our team suffers. Same with Conklin. He's not the best goalie on the team this season, he's not even the best goalie our team has ever had in its history, but when he goes between the pipes, I hope he turns into the reincarnation of Terry Sawchuk.

I understand what you are saying, but to say he can't be blamed for that as much as the rest of them. Or to cream your jeans when we re-signed him with ideas that he actually is, "The reincarnation of Terry Sawchuk," is just foolish. And to get mad at me for spelling out what anyone can see here is ignorant.
