Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 Not everyone is going to take a discount to play in Detroit, and for around 7 million-7.5 million youre getting your moneys worth for a winger who is a threat to put up 40 goals and 90 points for the next 10 years. Especially since Detroit has the money to pay him fair market value and he would be the answer to setting up for another 10 straight playoff appearances. Suter at market value is probably 6 million or so. If it comes down to having to pay them each that muchthan the wings should do it. You dont have to expect a discount from everyone, especially when you have the cap space to pay them what theyll want Well, I wouldn't want to bank on Parise for 10 years, but 6 or 7 would be nice, and that's plenty of time for the next generation to grow up. More to the point, yeah, market value is feasible, and looks pretty damn nice even: FORWARDS Zach Parise ($7.500m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.500m) / Darren Helm ($2.000m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.000m) Drew Miller ($0.837m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) DEFENSEMEN Ryan Suter ($6.500m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Johnny Boychuk ($2.875m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Backup ($1.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,792,044; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $507,

Even 7.5 and 6.5 to each of those guys might be a bit more than the wings would have to pay and that roster is still feasible under the cap, everyone who says its not possible needs to read Buppys post
Guest blueadams Report post Posted November 17, 2011 that's arguable. suter is definitely better defensively. true. i really should have said more valuable. being as big and physical as weber is. having that big right handed shot. being pretty solid defensively in his own right. he's probably the more valuable asset of the two. but like i said, suter being cheaper and helping us get parise puts him on top for me. As far as 3rd-line forwards, I like Taylor Pyatt, but there are many other bottom 6 UFA options we can consider on the event he re-signs with Phoenix or goes elsewhere: Kyle Brodziak- 27 years old, 8 points in 18 games this season. Current contract: $1.15 mil. Dan Winnik- 26 years old, 7 points in 18 games this season. Current contract: $950,000. Travis Moen- 29 years old, 8 points in 18 games this season. Current contract: $1.5 mil. Dan Carcillo- 26 years old, 7 points in 15 games this season. Current contract: $750,000. Tanner Glass- 27 years old, 9 points in 18 games this season. Current contract: $750,000. Positively shocking offensive numbers from Carcillo and Glass We definitely need to ****** one of these guys. As far as defense goes, it remains to be seen if Stuart and Lidstrom depart. The outlook on defense is up in the air right now.

Of that list Kyle Brodziak is the only guy I think would actually be worth while. I'd much rather see money distributed differently and the Wings sign some one like David Jones from the Avs. He's 27 years old, has a current cap hit of $2.5M, potted 27 goals last year, and currently has 7 goals, 4 assists in 18 games. I know some of you will not his injury history and that's fine. But he looked good in 77 games last season.
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 I think what people should be concerned about is the expiring NHL CBA. I have a feeling the landscape is going to change drastically. Don't expect Holland to sign anyone until the new CBA is signed. If its signed before the season starts that is.

Agreed! If anything we may have too many under contract. If anything we need at least 1 or 2 Defenseman and 1 top 6 forward.
IllinoisRedWingsFan 49 Report post Posted November 20, 2011 Here's what I'd like to see happen. Assuming nothing big changes. Why I didn't add another 3rd line guy?
