LOL at people bringing up how the Islanders are a horrible team. It's not like Crosby ever scores points against any of the good teams in the league, right?

This blind hatred is really funny sometimes.

It doesn't hurt to have your star player come back after 11 months against a 21 year old rookie tender, and one of the worst teams in the league.

It was amazing how he played last night, but you gotta be a bit realistic when you think about how he will play for the rest of the season. He's not going to get 2-4 points every night. He's not going to score every night. He's going to have some off games. That's hockey.

Funny. I was sure that Hudler was the better goalscorer of the two.

If I remember right Crosby already leapfrogged 243 players in point stats. If he can stay healthy and play 62 games this season 90 points is not impossible.

I'm not hugely impressed. Also, both of Sidney's goals were easily stoppable by an experienced goalie.

As opposed to Zetterberg and Datsyuk, who this season seem to be easily stopped by ANY goalie.

Of course he's going to score points against good teams - he's a good player, like him or not. It's not about Sid; it's about the media. They're ready to hand the Pens the Cup right here and now based on ONE GAME he played in. Could the Pens win the Cup this year? Sure. But I expect media professionals to make that prediction based on some solid stats collected over a period of time. I do expect the Pens to do well, especially with Crosby back, but I'm not going to declare it the Second Coming and demand that Bettman cancel the playoffs this year and give the Pens the Cup now. based on a game against the Islanders. If that's blind hate, then the blind haters still have a lot more sense left than the hockey media does.

I just don't understand meanness and the disrespect shown between so many LGW members. It overshadows any of the real discussion and is too bad for the forum. I'm on a few political forums, a couple 4x4 forums, some motorcycle forums, etc, but none of them have the meanness between members that I see displayed here.

And I'm taking into account that on LGW, Sidney Crosby is more polarizing than Obama, The Pope, and abortion.

I have nothing in particular against Crosby (other than he's a whiner) but I'm sick and tired of media being disrespectful to 1000+ other
NHL players who give their best day in and day out. Quite a few of them are close to skill level of Crosby and many are at least as entertaining
to watch, if not more. but all you hear is Canadian media doing blah-blah-blah about Crosby...

last I checked Jesus was Jewish. and he didn't play hockey. somebody please pass it to TSN/CBC. gonna be tough to swallow, I know...
that's not to say I'm totally against Canadian Church of His Greatness Crosby when the later retires or resurrects (whatever comes first).
I'm sure it'd gain whole 34+ millions followers...

Same thing, really. As the NHL constantly preaches his name over and over again it annoys fans all over the world to no end and many of us can't help but complain about it, thus creating controversy and strong emotional interest and salience from the public.

I feel like it's similar to Eva and Hudler. Without forces like him trolling everybody on here and causing us to spend more time on this site pointlessly arguing with them for only God knows why it might be safe to say that LGW.com doesn't get as much traffic.

Not really familiar with Canadian media/sports media practices in general, but you can probably just simply just say media is overhyping.

Because it's the same way here with media on certain athletes whether it's the NFL or NBA, or political news, whatever.

True I don't like Crosby much, but very little of it has to do actually with playing them in the Cup Finals two years in a row. I don't really get too much into sports rivalries/hating teams in that sense, I pretty much just want my team to win, it's Crosby's persona on the ice primarily that has been outlined by people plenty in here and I don't need to rehash again which I don't like about him, fair or not.

So that gives fuel for people to say that we are "jealous" of him unfortunately, but it absolutely makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when I or people get accused of that. Why the heck would I be jealous of his play? I already get that he's one of the best in the game today. Good on him. Some probably hate him because they simply hate Pitt or because we played them twice in a row. Cool, I perfectly get that. But pretty much with just about every person the dislike comes from the absurd over-emphasis he gets (and very few people here don't whine or be critical that a Red Wing should have attention more in the same scenario - just in general HE GETS TOO MUCH ATTENTION). Crosby probably thinks he gets too much attention.

While I'd appreciate if I got such attention, eventually I'd just be like, "Okay people, let me go about my normal routine."

I don't think most of the other players feel any disrespect (your number is way too high though, it's more like 600 that play on a regular basis). The players around the league appear to have respect for the guy too based on last year's player polls and based on what I read this morning:

Crosby was inundated with congratulatory texts from players around the league -- "That really means a lot," he said. "I was kind of caught off guard by that"

Edit....one other thing, most players, not all, but most wouldn't mind all the attention he gets as well, they probably prefer not to get bothered by the media. I've seen some guys in other sports who beg for the media attention, but I don't see a lot of that in hockey.
