Should Commodore be waived?

I think that now that Smith has established himself as NHL ready, the chances of this happening are much greater than before. Commies signing was to provide depth and some grittiness to the D-core. If Smith can fill that void (depth) you lose the grittiness but youre gaining experience in Smith.

The only problem is that if they had to make a choice to put Smith or Commie in the press box for 60 games a year, theyd rather have Commie in there and Smith playing like a mad man in GR. Smith cant crack the lineup quite yet, and the only play he'll get will be for injury replacement, like this last stretch.

So I guess my answer is no. But anythings possible. Kenny knows more than I do.

No. Why would you waive him? Send Brunnstrom back to Grand Rapids since he's not playing much anyway, and when he does he isn't doing well. Keep Commodore on the roster because there's always the chance you lose a defenseman or two; remember the other day when White was out and then Kronwall went down? Had Kronwall stayed out, it would put both of them in the lineup. Why lose a decent defenseman when you don't have to? Of course, this is LGW. Where you waive players you have room for, just because they aren't playing (Commodore), or aren't beating their career highs in scoring (Hudler, Cleary).

It doesn't have much to do with Commodore, really. I mean even if he is waived, that means one of Ericsson or Kindl is rotating in and out with Smith. Unless Smith is getting regular ice time, there's no point in keeping him up here to sit as a healthy scratch for periods of time when he can play top minutes in the AHL.

I can't see him being given a job over Ericsson or Kindl, (not that his play hasn't shown he deserves it) because it's just not generally how the Wings do things. Could surprise me though, as I'm already a bit surprised they're keeping him up now. The question is, is he as good/better than Ericsson or Kindl in the eyes of the Red Wings brass?

They'll give Smith a few more games to see if his performances were flukes. If he can keep his confidence out there, make the bold play, put himself in positions to score, or keep making passes up the ice, Commie will be sent down. But if Smith stumbles they'll send him down.

But right now 2 points in 2 games isn't anything to sneeze at. I'm most impressed with how he handles the puck. He doesn't make that fatal hesitation most rookies make before making the pass.

No.

Unless you're playing video games and you've turned the injuries option to "off"

HA! That one was pretty good.

And no. How many games has he played?

A. He hasn't had a chance to prove his worth to the team

B. He hasn't had a chance to f*ck up

No.

Commodore needs to be in more games. I think you keep Commodore for depth purposes but at the same time you have to have him getting some minutes so that if/when an injury does happen he isn't coming in after not having played in 2 months.

I say, now with White returning, Smith will (eventually) be sent down and the Wings are back with their original 7 roster defensemen.
