Patrick Eaves injury

at this point there is really no reason to even consider this year. see if he can continue to make progress for next year, or at the very least, get him to a point where it isn't effecting his life after hockey. its a shame to see him out, but for his sake, i hope they are ultra conservative.

Sucks for Patty, really like his game. All the best

Just wondering, is our 5.7 million cap space including Eaves on LTIR? I'm not positive and don't know where to look haha.

I don't think he's on LTIR, just waiting for confirmation on that though.

He missed a lot of 2002/03 NCAA season with 'head and neck injuries'. I'm guessing, almost 10 years down the track, this is what's happening again, this time it's even worse. I do fear whether he'll be able to play again.

I really like the guy so this is such devestating news.

The LTIR exemption only comes into play if you go over the cap. You have to use existing cap space first, so being so far under we don't benefit. You can't bank LTIR relief. Right now, we could add almost $19M in full-season cap, and at the deadline it will be around $23.5M (assuming nothing major before then). Technically, if Eaves is done for the year, would could also add another $1.2M to that, but I can't see us even coming close to acquiring that much.

Patrick Eaves (concussion) unsure of if he'll play again this season; Pavel Datsyuk (knee) looking for tickets to Florida

Eaves is dealing with headaches daily after suffering a concussion when he was hit in the face by a puck on Nov. 26. He finally feels OK to go on the ice by himself, which he has done for the past week, but there is no estimate on when he can practice, much less play again.

"I'm doing a little better," he said. "I can skate by myself, but it's nothing serious. I think it's more therapeutic. It hasn't been fun, but, I've been with my family and my daughter, so I'm trying to make the best of it."

Eaves said he's "day-to-day. Symptoms come and go. It's a slow process."

As for playing again this season, Eaves had no answer. "I really don't know. The way things are going, it's been slow. I'd love to come back, but we'll see what happens. I have good days and bad days." Eaves said he has a headache, "every day. It just depends how bad it is, and then all the stuff that comes with it."

Terrible news for Eaves. Hope he beats this thing.
