There are plenty of players that we can pick up next year that will make us tougher to play against.

Aron Asham
Brandon Prust
Byron Bitz
Daniel Carcillo
Darrel Boyce
Matt Martin
Shawn Thornton
Sean Avery
Ryan Carter
Tim Jackman
Jim Slater
Joey Grabb
Philippe Dupuis
etc...

Defenseman:
Barret Jackman
Alexi Yemelin
Theo Peckham
Mark Fistric
Korbinian Holzer
Mike Kommiserak
Boris Valabik
etc..

There is plenty of players that Holland can go out and replace Bert, Hudler, Miller, Emmerton and Holstrom etc. We need a change of 4th line. Usually 4th lines are big gritty guys that go out and crash and bang. We have a bunch of small soft guys that get manhandled like crazy.

While I agree somewhat with your options there, OUR fourth line guys have done a pretty solid job. Miller gets mad hate yet Babs keeps playing him and although he's really not a crash and bang type of guy he's been solid all around imo. Same with Cory. Holmstrom has even looked pretty good minus his skating ability. But yes next year I would like to somehow see our 4th line get tougher but it might not happen as well. Too early to tell yet.

I don't totally disagree, but boy those big tough Bruins sure put the Wings in their place last week.

I would rather have Ericsson for 15 years than Mike Komisarek, also.

That win was quite weird.

The Bruins played a great game that seems like it can be quite effective in the playoffs. I'm not saying the Wings need to be a lot more like the Bruins but I think a lot of teams, not just the Wings, would like to get a little bigger and stronger.

I'd like to add a young, perhaps unpolished up and coming talent in the mold of Brooks Laich or Ryane Clowe. I feel like adding that kind of guy is definitely one way to push the Wings into top contender status.

Agreed. I would prefer some more size/skill in the top-six as well, but that's a commodity most any team would also desire. I just don't necessarily believe the Red Wings absolutely can't contend without being less "soft". Sometimes all it really takes is a hard forecheck to wear on a team's defense. The Red Wings have players capable of doing that, which can negate any advantage in size or "grit" a team like the Sharks may own.

Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca are available. Although, ice time might be limited.

You must be going for the record on minuses for one post (I think that stinky fish guy holds the current record).

That being said, while I don't think the Wings are necessarily soft I do think they could use more snarl. They would benefit from more intimidating physical players in the lineup, especially on the bottom lines where there's more players of that kind available. And to be clear I'm not talking about goons.

No thank you to Avery and Carcillo, but there are guys out there. I also wouldn't include Homer in your list of players to replace. He's getting long in the tooth but he's shown he still has value and his been one of the better Wings so far this season.

Probably good to mention that these soft Wings also have the best goal differential in the entire Western Conference.

They sure do.

And you can also count this year's Pens.

Lots of tough teams win the Cup nowadays.

Meh. Campbell is more of an agitator that people wanted to punch in the face. I'll give you Thornton (I'd love him on the WIngs because he can actually play) I'll give you McQuaid as well because that boy can FIGHTTTT. Other than those three, who exactly makes this team (oh God) hard? Lucic is a spot picking turd, as is Who Hearing Horton, and even Chara to a lesser degree.

Plus the Bruins didn't win the Cup, the Boston Thomas' won the cup.

Yep agreed completely.

There have been times where this wings team looks like a team that has won everything there is to win. WHich is true for most of them.

That vancouver game where Abdelkader pounded Lapierre into a turtle, the wings got spark after. The wings could use a guy who can change momentum with a big hit on forward, or a fight as well.

Tim Jackman is one of the best 4th liners in the league, Shawn Thornton would be a perfect fit on this team, Matt Martin is looking to be a heavyweight who can play third line minutes and Prust is probably my favourite non redwing player.

I actually dont understand how Holland hasnt went out and got a guy like this, these non goon fighters are becoming more commonn because you cant be one dimensional anymore.

And with what Miller offers, and what Eaves has been playing like so far this year I would prefer any of those guys on the wings 4th line.

Prust is by far the best option I think and would jump for joy if the wings got him

No kidding. They're one of the toughest in the league.

As much as I don't like either of them, Chara and Lucic should be spot pickers. It'd be stupid for them to take themselves off the ice for 5 minutes just to fight some 4th liner. Chara especially as a defenseman.

Well, if enough people are using that word, that means it may have some actual truth behind it.

Number of people supporting particular idea is not a good way to evaluate validity of the said idea.

Having said that I am biased since I prefer skill over grit. Two Sharks skating into each other trying to hit Dats is my idea of a good hockey play. Him fighting Perry - I can live without.

Well too bad Drew Miller and Patty Eaves wont do either of those things, Dats isnt really in the question.

I would rather have a fourth liner who can run guys over, because quite frankly if he had the ability to skate around guys he wouldnt be a fourth liner. The wings fourth line cant do either.

And fourth line can be huge for teams, the grind line is a prime example
