Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) I was watching the NHL network earlier and they were talking about a possible coaching change/Bobby Ryan trade for the Ducks. I forgot which analyst was speaking but he said he thinks the reason for the Ryan trade was partly due to Ryan not getting along with Carlyle. He proceeded to say if Carlyle was fired he thought Ryan would likely stay in Anaheim. If the ducks decided to keep Carlyle he thought Ryan would more then likely get traded. Now that they got Washington's scraps behind the bench Ryan could very well remain a duck. I am not saying I agree or disagree with any of it, just restating what was said on the NHL Network. Basically bottom line if one happened, then the other wouldn't. With that being said I think they should trade Ryan, he is one hell of a player but they need some back end talent. The supposed rumor on what the Ducks were looking for was a top six center, a defenseman, and a first round draft pick/top end prospect. I think if the Ducks could in fact receive all that they will pull the trigger. Edited December 1, 2011 by Hockey13Playa
FifeHockeyNut 57 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Bob Mackenzie seems to think that's the end of the Ryan chat for now. Is Boudreu really the man for the job? When I watched 24/7 the only thing he got passionate about was ice cream for breakfast!
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Bob Mackenzie seems to think that's the end of the Ryan chat for now. Is Boudreau really the man for the job? When I watched 24/7 the only thing he got passionate about was ice cream for breakfast! Ha. This is funny and a little awkward. The talk was Carlyle or Ryan heading out, leaning towards the latter in return for a mass of depth which the Ducks are lacking. The damn minute the Capitals can Boudreau, the Ducks jump on in, like "nope, he's ours!". Something very playground-touch-football about the whole thing, but OK. As far as Boudreu, he does remind me a lot of Ron Wilson. Kind of an awkward (charming?) guy in interviews, more likely to make some crass, sarcastic statement than an actual response. But most important to this situation, Boudreau and Wilson are both turn-it-around guys. They'll probably never win a cup, but they are the coach BEFORE you can win a cup. Give these guys a team in the toilet and they're good at being the new voice and righting the ship. Beyond that, you'll need someone else.

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 I always liked Carlyle. He played enforcers and he looked like "The Penguin" 2 Nev and redwingfan19 reacted to this

akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 have to say, I'm impressed with the way Boudreau handled the situation. no bad words towards old employer, understanding about the decision which sure as hell wasn't (at least entirely) on him to blame. and now the guy gets new job within two days. I still hate the Ducks, but I wish Bruce good luck with them.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Players coaches don't work in the NHL, sorry... To be successful at the NHL level, players need tough coaches and if anything, Anaheim just got looser... they simply have to be shepherds, and most important - maintain the air of cool... sorry for the OT. but I kinda disagree with that. there's place for players' coaches and/or builders like Boudreau or Hitchcock and place for tough a* like Crawford, Ruff or Tortorella. truth being said, not all of those touch coaches are successful other than when they get hold of real sh*load of talent (see: Quenville, Joe, Crawford, Marc). Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 What kind of coach is Babs for that matter? I'm pretty sure he's not a player's coach. He used to call himself the "fun sponge" but doesn't anymore.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Ew... That's a horrible decision, man. It's really just part of my long term plan - Coach Columbus for a couple years, then exit, spend a couple years without a gig, attend Wings camp as a guest, then replace a coach of a legit team partially through the season... it worked for Hitch! What kind of coach is Babs for that matter? I'm pretty sure he's not a player's coach. He used to call himself the "fun sponge" but doesn't anymore. Fun sponge... wasn't that a Seinfeld episode
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Fun sponge... wasn't that a Seinfeld episode Thanks for the insanely nasty mental image. I wonder who will be on the chopping block next so that their team can grab Carlyle. This might be a stupid question, but how does this work as far as contracts go? If a coach signs a 3-year contract, and then gets fired after a year, does he get anything for the 2 remaining years? Severance pay? Anything? Donuts even? If the coach isn't getting anything, why do they have contracts? They only keep a coach from leaving on his own, but don't help him in any way. Seems pretty one-sided to me. Any input would be appreciated.

Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 Fun sponge... wasn't that a Seinfeld episode No idea. Not a follower of Seinfeld. But I wasn't just making stuff up after all: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/04/albom_paints_a_fine_portrait_o.html Yeah but Columbus seems like an organization where dreams go to die. At least they can pay their players market value though. That's what we should call James Wizniewski from now on. You know how blogs do game day updates and whatnot. Instead of James Wiz it should just say Market Value.
