12/10 GDT : Jets 1 at Red Wings 7

Missed this one due to running errands plus grocery and xmas shopping with the wife (should have been last night but I got called to sub in on bass for a jazz gig as we were heading out the door).

Got it on the dvr so it should be a fun watch after the organ gig tomorrow AM. I've gotta say it was quite nice to walk in to a Barnes & Noble with wi-fi to find the score was 2-1 as we entered and it hit 6-1 as we were in line to check out.

Thanks for the info in the gdt as always, but I've got to know: how was the live mic on Homer?

St. Louis is up on San Jose, 1-0. I want St. Louis to lose because they're way too close for comfort in the standings but I'd like for San Jose to lose as well.

My hate for the Sharks is more than my dislike of the Blues.

The Blues' luck will run out soon. We should hope for more San Jose losses, because those guys will creep up in the standings in March-April, while St. Louis is probably struggling to remain in the playoff picture.

If Flip keeps this up I may have to eat my words about him never amounting to more than a decent defensive forward. And he may rethink me demanding a second line scorer in exchange for him.

EDIT: And I love how a 7-1 beatdown doesn't merit a front page story on NHL.com. Maybe tomorrow.

I suppose he hasn't passed his season high for total points just yet. Not unreasonable to proceed with caution in regards to his performance.

How can an absolute dominant performance only get 10 pages?!

The haters lay low when we win. They will be back after the next loss claiming that we are to old, to soft, to European... They will be praising the big bad Sharks and wanting to trade Hudler, Big E. and Flip straight up for Shea Weber or Drew Daughtery.

The GDT thread is quiet because there was little to complain about, with that performance. Too bad it wasn't a shut out for Jimmy, but that early goal woke the Wings up. And then some!

No headlines for our Wings, despite that utterly dominant performance. Most pundits cite the reason for the beat-down to the fact that the Jets were "tired." Whatever. That's just an excuse to not give the Wings credit, if you ask me.

As Bert said during an interview mid-game, "We travel, too. I don't feel sorry for them." Agreed, Bert.

There's probably more to discuss with a loss than with a win. I mean, you don't get to talk about how they can improve when they win 7-1. The only improvement they could have made is not giving up a goal 30 seconds into the game. That obviously pissed them off enough though. I wish this team would run the score up more often.

Agreed, it's hard to post pages of "WOOHOOO!! Mule/Bert/Huddie/etc." when they get to 5, 6, 7 goals and no push-back from the other team, no mistakes to critique, nothing to complain about.

I want to thank Mike for making us the stellar game day threads, and not to be discouraged about lack of posting when everyone is just wallowing in the greatness of this team, like last night. We do appreciate your efforts, it's not that we don't love your work and appreciate it.

I am more  about the media brushing off a hum-dinger of a game and giving the Wings no props for winning it. Penguins got a headline because they won without Crysby. Now, that's newsworthy. I bet his team mates love it when he's out, so they get mentioned.

I hope Huddie has found his stride, tiny though it might be, it could be mighty!! :D

I'm not happy.

Should have won 7-0. Howard is no Carey Price indeed.

He most certainly isn't although i'm surprised how solid Howard has been thus far, but it's just 1/3 into the season. Must keep it up.

Puckloo is hitting it on the head on all of her points. I'm also annoyed that the Wings didn't get the props from the national media they should have, but I can sort of understand why.

The Wings have been the standard of excellence to which the rest of the league is compared for 15 years or so. It's almost as if the Wings winning or even kicking serious butt is expected or taken for granted. It's also why I think the media is quick to sound the death knells prematurely whenever there is a small bump in the road. Whereas if the Pittsburgh team wins without the poison dwarf's annointed messiah it must be front page news since the expectation is for a blowout loss without him.

We've been spoiled as Wings fans for a long time (and long time fans will remember the Darkness with Harkness and other very lean years when the opposition reveled in the mediocrity of those Wings teams before this great run). I think it's only human nature for the media to not give as much credit since the other teams so much more often than not come out on the losing end of the scoreboard and they're probably sick of having to report yet another Wings win. The Wings are so far removed from the lean years that most modern fans and reporters don't remember that there was a time when the Wings weren't so good.

Most certainly.

Howard: 17-6-1, 1.85 GAA, 0.931 SV/%

Price: 11-8-7, 2.19 GAA, 0.920 SV/%

Does that qualify Jimmy's netminding as "Price-less"?

First off, his numbers isn't that much better, secondly montreal is a bad team this year. You can't deny Price is the better goalie, also add that he's 3 years younger.
