I'm not denying that he should be in, but we know the game of politics in the ASG. Players like Luongo, Brodeur and even Ovechkin and Crosby should have no business sniffing the ASG this year (the former because he hasn't been an all-star this season and the latter because he's barely played this season). I've always been of the mind that the ASG ballot should be based on the current season, not reputation or name or the previous season's accomplishments - the current season. That's why Howard deserves it, but politics is why he won't get it.

crosby is one of the leading vote getters, and how many games has he played? that in itself is silly. they should pick the teams on stats alone...
He's played 8 games, which is good for 625th in the league.
8 games played in 11 months and the only forwards above him are Kessel, Alfredsson and Spezza.

Only 6 spots are spoken for when it comes to fan voting. Howard wont get in on fan vote but I would be he gets in via merit. No doubt it'd be nice to have rest but its 1intercollegiate period and some skills stuff... come on lol. Plus last year they got it pretty much right. Where they had the same process.

The last two goalies the Wings had play in the ASG, were Ozzie in 2008 and Hasek in 2002.
Both of those seasons we had enforcers. Also, those were our last two Cup runs.

aside from getting rest which might be important to the team if conklin continues to blow chunks, the biggest reason to not vote him in to me is to give him a couple days to go home and spend time with his wife and baby. i can only imagine having to be away from home so much with a newborn.
sure being in the allstar game in an honor, but theres plenty of years left for that.
