Players with similar injuries and setbacks in the past have missed an entire year due to post concussion symptoms (savard, kariya before he retired, etc)

My question is will he play again this year?

Quite honestly I do not see him playing again until the playoffs because of how high seeded the penguins are currently. I know this can change but honestly I doubt it will.

What do you guys think?

I'd have such a high index of suspicion with him at the moment that it would be mindblowing. Any headaches, nausea, other symptoms, he sits. Hit during a game and goes to the quiet room? Sit for the next. That he hasn't been free of symptoms for any significant period of time is pretty worrisome from a medical perspective- the IMPACT test is nice, but imperfect.

Second impact syndrome is not something to take lightly.

I'd wager he sits at least until the playoffs, unless things get dire and they're fighting for a spot. Then, they might take a risk, but it's still a big one. One good shot from Kronwall, Chara, any of the heavy hitters could end his career.

It's as I told a patient this morning: Yes, it's important that you do A, B and C for your job. However, if you seriously hurt yourself doing it, then not only do those not get done, but now you're in trouble. He needs to take care of himself first.

I never thought I say such a thing, but I want him to get better. I don't like the douchef*** one bit, but him not playing is a loss for the entire NHL. He's good for the game.

I think we've seen the last of him this season. As much as I can't stand the ******-canoe, concussions are no laughing matter. They need to be taken seriously at all times, regardless of who they've happened to. I hope he retires to a goat farm in Saskatchewan or something. That way his brain doesn't get scrambled any more and he can live a normal life, and the rest of us can get on with enjoying hockey sans HWSNBN.

I could careless, yes he is a good player, but as a whole I don't buy the he is good for the game thing. Every player in the NHL is good for the game. On the end I'll take losing one of our many stars to not have him as a player being shoved down my throat... Yes it is sad to see but thats what I call Matt Cooke Karma. There weren't a milliOn press conferences for Savard. Yet for done reason he gets treated like a long. When he is blowing every NHL'er out of the water with points. Then I'll consider him the hands down best player. Until then he is just a star player like the Sedins, datsyuk, Malkin, Giroux, Ovie, and a bunch more.

Yes let's wish that a player never plays again because the media promotes him after having one the best starts to a career in the history of the game.

Stay classy wing's fans.

This is awful news, he's such an important player for the league, it will not be the same without him. Such a shame.

He runs around stirring up s*** after a very serious injury. Plays like he's untouchable. Then is surprised when he gets is dished back. Great player. Seriously immature. Butt-punchin cowgirl. Sit down sissy-boy. And eat some s***.

At least this puts Pavel on the spotlight as the best all around player in the NHL.

Datsyuk is already the best all around player.

Crosby is the best player. Guy scores a point per game easily, even after being away from the game for a long time.

And I can't believe some fools on this board actually think this doesn't hurt the league. They televise countless Pens games and talk about Crosby all the time. Whether you like that or not, it's a fact. When he's not playing, it makes the league look worse.

Seriously, I know he is a good player, but the efforts to make him the best and the face of the NHL has made me dislike the kid. There are other young players who work hard and are great fun to watch - we have a few - who will not get the media hype, but who are still also good for the game. Hard work and heart - to me, that's what the game is all about.

I hate for any player to go out like this, but his time might be over. Seems that he has a hard time coming back from the injury, much as he might want to.

I think we may have seen the last of him at least for the regular season.

One thing is for sure, it's unlikely he'll ever be the same again.

I can't see him coming back and never having any setbacks when it comes to concussions and headaches. He couldn't even make it for a month after having a whole year off. And the hits he took weren't even that severe.

Many players have had their careers end early, but this could potentially be the worst such example. Maybe in any sport. We're talking about a guy who was on pace to finish his career as a top 10 all time player.

When bobby orr's career ended early, the NHL found a way to survive. I think we will be a okay. The only money the NHL is band wagon Pitt fans, and the money to reprint all the ad's with Crosby already all over them...

Does it suck to to lose a star player, yes. Will it hurt the NHL greatly, NO.

To be fair, though, it is the league's own fault for putting all their eggs in one basket.
