Friedman Alludes to AA trade in 31 thoughts

#7

Simply says Yzerman is not happy with the status quo in Detroit. AA is goalless right now. Could be a trade piece.

I just hope we don't trade him while he's goalless... Give him a ton of ice time and top power-play minutes, hope he breaks out and goes on a bit of a heater... Then trade him for a 1st round pick or high end prospect.

AA trade value has never been lower. Keep him, hooe he starts scoring again and when we're WAY out of the playoffs at the TDL turn him for a 1st. If we can't get a 1st, hold on to him until after we win the draft lottery, then he becomes more expendable and we can package him along with a pick or two for a player we need.

AA struggling a dozen games into the season on a bad roster will have minimal impact on his trade value. Especially considering he is known for having slower starts.

Minimal maybe, but there is an impact, which is the point. You shouldn't trade a player when his stock is down, and right now, Athanasiou's stock is definitely down. Production will always effect a players perceived value. The fact that he only has 3 assists, and is a team worst (and league worst) -12, through 11 games will definitely impact his trade value. The best thing to do, like mentioned, is to wait it out and hope he starts capitalizing on his chances. Assuming he does, he would be a pretty significant trade chip later in the season. If AA can get us a 1st round pick, plus, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The counter-point to trade AA is that he's an RFA and so he's still under team control.  If he has a bad season this year we might be able to lock him down on a reasonable contract for a few years.  While there are definitely deficiencies to his game, he's still got the ability to change games and put up big numbers in small minutes.  Say you can re-sign him after a bad year at 2-3 years at 4.5-5 million to ride out his RFA years.  That's a huge advantage down lineup.

Agreed that we shouldn't trade him right now. But to those saying his trade value is at an all time low right now... that is rather silly

If anything next season with veleno etc... added to the lineup his #’s should improve and if hes locked to another 2-3 years at a reasonable cap hit his value should be really good and then we should ship him out especially if we land a lafraniere type impact player at the draft

0 goals is 0 goals , hes hit over 33 pts once in his career .... its not silly at all. His value is complete s*** right now , wed be lucky to land a 2nd rd at this stage

While you are absolutely wrong, it's funny how you basically balk at a 2nd round pick, yet if there is any talk of us giving one up you basically have a Legwand-esque meltdown.

Byfuglien Likely Headed To Arbitration

Quote

They feel in the exit physical at the end of last year, Dustin Byfuglien was deemed fit to play. He didn’t let anyone know that he had injuries with his ankle all summer, and made it clear at the beginning of the year he was ready to retire.

Dustin Byfuglien was uncertain about the future of his career, but he’s since indicated a willingness to return and play. And he has a contract, of course, for this year and next. He’s missed out on roughly $1.4 million of his salary to this point this season, he would be due more than $6 million for the next.

The other important part of the arbitrator is that there’s money involved, and those bad feelings

Friedman added that it remains to be seen, if Byfuglien does return, whether Winnipeg still wants him, and whether the veteran still wants to play for the Jets after all is said and done.

> Lie to the team
> Lie to teammates
> Lie to fans
> Lie to doctors
> "WAIT NO I STILL NEED THAT MONEY FOR ICE FISHING"

Be Dustin Byfuglien
Literal human trash bag

Oilers No Longer An Option For Poolparty

Well Holland handled business quickly in Finland

I actually think we might be a primary destination. Pulju wants top 6 minutes and a change of scenery. We are one of the few teams that can offer that immediately. Yzerman is also in Finland with these two right now, desperately needs to stop the Red Wings free fall, and still owes us our monthly trade for Nov.

Word from Edmonton fans is that Holland has set a very high asking price. We are in a unique position to offer him former players of his that he likes.

Athanasiou + prospect or pick?
Glendening + prospects and picks?

Who else would Holland want? Maybe Greener or Bowey?

I would think, even with Athanasiou's horrid start, he should have more, or at least similar to Puljujarvi, shouldn't he? A player that has proven capable of scoring 30+ goals in the NHL vs a player that was once a top prospect, but has since done jack s*** at the NHL level...

Why bother?  Yzerman just traded for Perlini who's basically the exact same player for a 10th the asking price of Puljujarvi.

Excerpt:

"...the most infamous player in the Sabres’ 50-year history would do it all over again. Given the chance, he’d willingly accept the pain, the depression, the three-drug cocktail regularly injected into his hip, the losing, the eroding of his skills, the embarrassment of zero goals and – of course – the unbelievable gobs of money.

But as he weighs those three years in Buffalo, as long-gone emotions return to bring him down, he pauses. There’s one thing he could have done without.

“I guess I would have loved not to catch so much s***,” Leino said, “but it is what it is.”

Maybe we can flip Perlini for him

It makes me feel dirty that I'd rather see us part with AA over disney.com
