What happens with the players with a letter on that roster now? They clearly stuck up for Babs despite making the young players very uncomfortable. Clearly, team leadership doesn't have their back.

Of course, family men will be fine with sharing phone photos. It's gonna be all pictures of their kids and s***. But 20 year olds? C'mon man. No 20 year old is gonna be comfortable showing their cell phone pictures to their boss.

i don't think it was a matter of the leaders choosing coach over kids. I think it might be a case where the leaders had a different experience and didnt know the kids had a problem with it. Or that Babs possibly treated the kids differently (which he is known to do). Or maybe they just thought the kids were way overreacting (which they sometimes tend to do).

I think any divide will be way easier to mend now with Babs out, which may have had more to do with it than any actual wrongdoing.

For sure. I don't think there was any ill intent by the leadership by any means. It's just when looking at it from the perspective of the young players who were uncomfortable with it, seeing their captain stick up for it in the media may have been a bummer.

In the end, Babs should have ******* known better. What a clown.

This. No matter what his intentions were with this little ”get to know you-exercise” he should have known better. Pretty arrogant of him to think he would get away with it.

With this latest Babcock news, and all of the other news about him being a dick to players, I am reminded of the 2008 TDL when we almost re-acquired Sergei Fedorov. It was wildly rumored that Babcock was the one that didn't want him to come play here.

Quote

Sport-Express's Igor Larin, whose close friend happens to be one Viktor Fedorov, suggests that it was Red Wings coach Mike Babcock who ultimately nixed the deal that would have brought Sergei Fedorov to Detroit.

Babcock's name, spelled in Cyrillic's phonetic alphabet, is "Bebcock," thus the headline:

February 29, Sport-Express (roughly translated): THE VETO ON EXCHANGE OF FEDOROV TO "DETROIT" HAS IMPOSED BEBKOK
As it became known to the correspondent "SE" to Igor Larin from a reliable Detroit source, Sergei Fedorov's returning to "Detroit" [on the] last day of trades was as never real [read "very real"], but it has appeared that it was broken by the main trainer of "Red Wings" Mike Babcock. On [several occasions] Babcock has an opportunity to impose the original veto on a player transfer--and in case of with Fedorov, who, we shall remind, in Deadline Day has passed from "Columbus" to "Washington", [Babcock's veto power], most likely, and has been applied.

In the meantime on Wednesday the general manager of the "Red Wings" [Ken] Holland, in interview [with the] Detroit Free Press, informed [them of] a number of interesting details.

"On the eve of the "deadline" we had many conversations about Fedorov," Holland has stated. "I have collected 13 or 14 club officials--all our coaches, managers, and pro scouts. The emotions caused by possible return of Sergei, were [very] different. Yes, I have received Mike's opinion (Babcock--note, Igor Larin), but other positions were expressed.

Holland also has declared that in Deadline day he [repeatedly] called the colleague from "Columbus," GM Scott Howson, who had asked for Fedorov a young prospect hockey player.
"We decided upon a certain offer, however Sergei eventually has been traded to "Washington " (the Capitol has given the young defender Teddy Ruth for the Russian veteran--note, Igor Larin). Such situation in general we arranged. They intended to receive a really good prospect player for Sergei, and we didn't want to give those up."

According to "Sport-Express," from the same Detroit source, Holland really tried to get Fedorov, despite of the veto of the coach. However "Columbus" has requested from "Detroit" young forward Valteri Filppula and a first-round draft pick. As a result after these negotiations, and from this perspective "Columbus" has refused, having decided to not strengthen a club of the [same] division and having given the Russian legionary to a team not only in another division, but also the other conference.

Let's remind, that from last ten matches "Detroit" has lost nine, but in Deadline Day, on the trade market, the Red Wings were barely noticed.

I am encouraged that even though Babdick didn't want him here, Holland still tried to acquire him, but didn't want to pay the price. Filppula and a 1st, which is ironic since he was so quick to give a 1st away for KFQ without blinking an eye. This was just CBJ ask, there was no counter by Holland as far as I can remember, and Fedorov ended up going to Washington for pretty much a nobody who turned in to a bigger nobody. Flip had a nice career, after he left Detroit, but IMO, if Detroit would've re-acquired Sergei, they probably would've won back to back in 08/09. Plus if it was the 09 1st rounder, heaven forbid that we didn't trade that for a 2nd and a 3rd (Ferraro and Nestrasil) they really did so much to help this franchise! Shulda, woulda, coulda, but looking back, this is an early indication about how Babcock let personal feelings get in the way of a teams success. Fast forward to what we are all learning about him now, with multiple Red Wings and Maple Leafs stories, I really cannot stand this guy and really wish he wasn't part of this team's History. He ruined many players swan-songs, including what should've been a glorious homecoming for Mike Modano.

2008/9 Fedorov would not have been a difference maker in that finals game 7. Especially at the cost of Flip. Rafalski only having one leg left was the difference.

Hell, if you swap Flip for Feds the Wings may not win that 2008 cup either.

There are a bunch of "if's" but I believe they still win 08, and even with Rafalski on one leg, they could've still won 09. Game 6 or 7, one more goal. Fedorov could've played D and made up for Rafalski on one leg. I realize it's all hindsight and maybe's, but the fact remains that with all the crap coming out of how much of a dick Babcock was and still is, it scraps my ass knowing that he was most likely the guy who had the "no" vote to bring Sergei back.

Toxic Actions of Toxic Coach of Toxic Sport in Toxic League exposed by Toxic Host of Toxic Podcast on Toxic Website

Thank the heavenly father he's banished. The man had become too powerful for a mortal coach.
Not only did he molest the players phones, but he molested his boss's too.
Good GAWD.

If Babcock resigns from CBJs he forfeits his contract no? They prob slipped him some benjis to FK off tho.

He's fine either way.

It's amazing, with all the big dogs Babcock fuked with and over throughout the years that it was Biz that got him. That's like Kenard doing Omar. Or for all you racist christians out there, Pontius doing Jesus,

Nah it makes sense. Commodore is a friend of the show. Perfect timeline honestly.

I assume that the "last 24 hours was not to investigate further but to negotiate his resignation" that was being reported, was for them haggling with Babs over severance to re-sign. I assume he got a nice parachute.

More Babs info dropped on the Chiclets most recent podcast

  • They made it clear it was young players who had a problem with it and kept saying things like "you can't tell an 18 year old to hand you there phone so you can go through it" (ding ding ding it was Adam Fantilli who is the whiny rat with dick pics on his phone)
  • One incident occurred at Babs house. He invited a young player over for lunch. Told said player to give him his phone, flipped through his photos, then gave the phone back and told the player to leave (no lunch was served).
  • One of the older players who was at preseason, but is probably an AHLer for CBJ, said Babs came and sat next to him on the bench while he was taping his stick and said "This is pretty great isn't it?" the player agreed and Babs responded saying "Enjoy it, it's the last time you'll ever be on an NHL bench".

Of all the people in the world Mike Babcock certainly is one of them.

What I'd like to know is how it all went down...Like Commodore says; Babs being gruff and demanding, or was it more subtle and inquisitive?

He showed players pics of his family and described them.  Then he said "I read that you had a family.  How are they?"  Doesnt seem too strange on the surface at first.  But consideeing the entire WORLD knows that Mike Babcock is the most calculating, maniacal ******* on the planet that will gather any knowledge he can to use as leverage to do something despicable, that entire line of conversation just cannot happen.  That's a conversation you have with a nice person you meet on an airplane.  You dont share your most personal family information with your employer.  I was inclined to brush off Commodore, Modano, and Franzen before, as it all seemed a bit of sour grapes from the players.  But this incident is telling.  Babcock IS the jerkoff that people say he is.  He's a total dbag.

I'd imagine the OVERWHELMING majority of people, no matter what job they have, would not feel comfortable giving their boss unfettered access to scroll through their phones' pictures, texts, etc. Just like nobody would let their boss look through their wallet or purse. And it's not like Babs doesn't know that this would make people uncomfortable, he's not a stupid person. THE POINT was to make subordinates feel intimidated and vulnerable.

I think it was also to figure out what kinda person they are. Most ppl have pics of what they care about. If thats family, then kids. If its drugs, then probably parties. Working out, pics from the gym. Etc.

But also to fuq with subs fersure.

I don't buy it. The "I'm just getting to know them" narrative is bologna. Why couldn't he have just asked them about their kids, family, the gym, etc. to get to know them?  Ya know, like everybody else does when they meet new people? Why did he need to scroll through their phones? I got it, Mike Babcock is probably just a visual learner who was trying this best to relate to the kids.
