Goalie controversy in Philadelphia brewing?

"I have great news and even better news," said Bryzgalov after the Flyers' morning practice. "OK, great news is I'm not playing (Monday), and better news is we have a chance to win the game (Monday).
When asked what his mindset would be now, he replied, "Make sure I don't forget my thermos with some nice tea and enjoy the bench."

He's funny in interviews, but those kinds of things are starting to not be funny anymore from a Flyers perspective. For their stud goaltender who signed a $51 million deal to say that his team has a chance to win because he won't play can't bode well for them.

Jimmy Howard @ 2.25 mm per year or Bryz @ 8 mm per year? :hehe:

Bryz is an ass. And he's not a tremendously good goalie. And he's on an unmovable contract. Sucks for the Flyers. Bob ain't consistent enough either.

I still can't believe Philly signed Bryz to that type of money. He's had 3 good years in the league and all of a sudden he gets top tier money? The management in Philly is more of a joke for trading away Brad Richards who is one of the best two-way players in the game. It's not often you have a guy who can score 30 goals, win face offs, be the best penalty killer and shut down top lines...and they traded him to LA for a prospect.

I was shocked when Philly signed him after getting absolutely lit-up by the Wings in the playoffs. That's the thing about goalies - there are many that have 1 good year and then go down the tubes. Unfortunately, many GM's in the league seem to ignore the pattern.

Mason

Bryz

Ward

Anderson

Halak

Theodore

Emery

Niemi

It's a long list

Philly's management is far from a joke. I'd say Philly has some of the best management in the league. Holmgren has a different philosophy and strategy then Holland, but it works. Their moves this summer were masterful.

They really only lost Carter and Richards, who they replaced with Jagr, Simmonds, and Voracek.... This also freed up the cap space to add Bryzgalov and freed up the roster so that guys like Giroux and JVR could take on bigger roles. not to mention they flipped their draft picks for higher ones and also got Schenn and Couturier. 2 guys who will most likely end up as top 6 forwards.

On paper all of Philly's moves were awesome. In reality Bryz is turning out to be a let down, but Jagr turned out to be better than expected and Giroux and JVR have stepped up to assume Richards and Carters roles and then some!

Sometimes I wish Holland had some of these wheelin and dealin abilities...

And I'm sure fans of most other teams wish they had Holland as GM.

That said, Richards and Carter would not have been traded had it not been for the problems they were causing behind the scenes. Trading major players is never preferable. There is much more to trading than simply swapping players.

Cam Ward? Because imo he is still pretty beastly.
