Fight During Postgame Handshake

Was wondering if anyone has seen this?

I've never heard of this happening in the NHL, but am surprised it hasn't, considering how heated some playoff series get. But this is unprofessional, and I'm glad both teams didn't wind up brawling because of the actions of one player.

I got to see a full brawl during a handshake between the Whalers and Knights (I believe) a few years back.

Was pretty fun to watch, but when I look back it was a pretty bad situation.

I've seen it in youth hockey a few times, but it seems to (and should) decrease as players get older. However, as players get older the last few minutes can be fight filled in place of a brawl like this.

Yeah but lets throw cages on NHL players and get rid of fighting in the game so that s*** like this can boil over instead of 2 guys squaring up

Not sure how this makes sense considering this rarely happens and fights don't necessarily prevent people's frustrations from boiling over into other games or later on. I even cited a similar fight in a league which allows fighting.

This is just a case of an idiot causing a mess of a situation. Nothing more, nothing less.

Kinda blame the refs for this. As someone else said, they should have let these guys handle it earlier. However fighting in College Hockey is a no no. I blame the refs for even letting the two squads shake hands in the first place. You already broke up a fight at the end of the game and now your going to let the two sides shake hands???? Stupid move if you ask me.

Anybody else close their eyes real tight and imagine it was Ciccarelli and Lemieux in the handshake line in the 96 playoffs?

Red Wings player Dino Ciccarelli famously quipped after the series "I can't believe I shook this guy's friggin' hand after the game. That pisses me right off".

It's especially inappropriate now that they aren't allowed to be the "Fighting Sioux" any more. Now they're just North Dakota. No mascot or nickname. At least once upon a time, they could say it was the "fighting" part that brought it out. Now all we have is the "north".

The whole point of that handshake is to show sportsmanship by both teams. The game is over and you should be letting whatever happened go, nothing can change the outcome now. Poor choice on his part and good that he lost the 'A' he doesn't deserve to be a leader if that's his example.

When I was in my last year of bantam during the "A"champs trophy presentation (we won;) Each team was lined up along the blue line and all of a sudden the "other" team started beating the s*** out of one another, we just sat there while 3/4 of the team were rolling around on the ice and throwing blows. Craziest s***s ever.

Honestly I don't fault the refs. Maybe they' should've had an eye on things in the post game handshake more than they normally would, but I can't fault them for not anticipating the kid doing something that stupid.

Glad he lost his A. He should definitely have some consequences from his coach and team if not the league.
