I couldn't find the article at the Boston Globe. But they summed it up okay in the article I've linked. This may be an interesting time for the Bruins, I don't think Rask has what it takes to take them far into the playoffs. Something interesting to keep an eye on.

I would totally agree that Rask cant take them far in the playoffs. didnt he blow it big time a couple years ago?

15-11 in AHL playoffs

7-6 in 2010 NHL playoffs.

under .500 last year regular season

decent stats this year but theyre stacked.

Rask has played 13 Playoff games with a SV% of .912 and a 2.61 GAA

Looking at recent Cup winners' playoff stats:

2008 Osgood SV% of .930 and a 1.55 GAA over 1100 minutes played

2009 Fleury SV% of .908 and a .261 GAA over 1400 minutes played

2010 Niemi SV% of .910 and a 2.63 GAA over 1300 minutes played

2011 Thomas SV% of .935 and a 1.98 GAA over 1400 minutes played

Looking at Rask's playoff stats: SV% of .912 and a 2.61 GAA just over 800 minutes played

I'm not saying he isn't good, but he's not time tested like the previous examples. He'll be ok, but I think they'd get bumped out in the second round.

Edited for stat correctness.
As far as Raask vs Thomas goes: regular season numbers aren't the same as playoff dominance. Thomas won the Conn Smythe by a mile. No one else even had a chance.

I laughed at this quote about Thomas from that article

"[expletive] selfish [expletive]," as one team source tells the Globe

Thomas seems to have a strange relationship with his franchise.

He was awesome for them several years ago, then Rask took his job, then last year he took it back from Rask and won the Cup and Conn Smythe, and now they want him out again.

Reminds me of some of the Wings goalie situations with Cujo, Hasek and Osgood.

The fact that they describe him as a friendless loner doesn't help with the making friends thing.

Deadspin (the source of this "story") is a joke. They are just like ESPN and SI, only acknowledging that hockey exists when something like this happens, then quickly forgetting about all about it so they can obsess about football. If this was coming from somewhere more reputable, like say...Bob McKenzie, I might give it some serious thought. But Deadspin? Move along, folks.

Like I said, I tried to find this on the Boston Globe (the source that Deadspin reported it from) but it seems they have a pay wall so I was unable to actually grab the article, I'm currently looking for other outlets of this piece of news. But yes, when it comes to Deadspin, hockey is the red-headed step-child.

I think you are way off on minutes played for Osgood.

I'll check, but I could swear that that's what I read for that playoff season.

You're right, I read the regular season total for time but put in playoff stats for other, thanks for pointing it out.
Boston would be utterly mental if they were to deal Thomas away...Rask may be the "future" in about 2 to 4 years from now, but in all honesty this is Thomas' team, and if Bruins want a chance to repeat - it'll be with Thomas in net.

This!!!

( I have to agree with you - as always... :) )
