Me thinks it'll be nearly impossible for the Preds to keep both Suter, and Weber...Depending how the new CBA takes shape (say for an example there's a soft cap) we could see Suter get offers of $6 million plus.

He'll get offers of more then that. I'd say teams like the Rags and others will offer 7 or more.

I guess I'm more reading between the lines.

To come out publicly and announce he has no intentions to sign before the deadline is pretty close to saying he will test the market on July 1st

I worry too that other teams will offer way more for him, than the wings. I think 6-6.5 would be a fair offer from us.

Yes, but considering what Wisniewski got last year, Suter is worth WAAAYYYY more than $6.5 on the market. I can see him easily topping what Weber is making this season if he tests the open market. I hear one of the items in the CBA issue is the "Holland Rules" of long term contracts to keep the Cap hit down. The NHL hates the fact that teams can sign multiple super-stars to "life-time" deals all with keeping the cap-hit within reason...So I believe that wherever he goes it'll be for a huge salary and a huge cap-hit....

I have a hard time seeing Suter come to Detroit. I'm sure he'll get more elsewhere, and the predators likely won't be trading within the division, especially with how competitive it is. I hope to god im wrong though.

I have to think the Wings are on Suter's radar - I have no idea though if he is the type to go for $$$ over a winning team, but he seems like the type who would accept less money from a Cup contender - which the Wings are only one of, but Detroit does have a lot to spend next year, Lidstrom or not.

I believe that this year Suter is just making it clear that you have to go add players at the deadline to have any shot at resigning me. He has to know that Detroit is waiting to give him a big contract and make him the number 1 Dman of a winner next season.

We will see if he will take a discount to play with the Wings or if he will cash in with another team. I can only hope he is willing to take less to play for Detroit.

Honestly, I think he knows better than this. You can bet his agent and himself are talking now and he knows Detroit wants him. I can almost guarantee he also knows how much cap space the Wings are going to have this offseason. He is probably thinking, "They want me to replace the Perfect Human. They will pay me more to get me there because they might loose their 2nd best d-man (Stewie). They want me. They can always pull some prospects up or get cheaper UFA to fill the void if they pay big for me."

On the other topic, the fans in Nashville are great and they take the team very seriously. As for the front office, I don't know. But gut tells me, Nashville won't keep both Weber and Suter. Thats where the problem is.

Detroit won't pay through the nose to get him. If Suter is willing to take less than market value, he will be in a Wings jersey. If not, he can cash in with Anaheim or some other team willing to spend 6-7 million a season.

Kevin Allen is also big buddies with people in the Preds front office, hence his saying the Preds have a shot at the Cup.... I will believe they spend when I see them spend. Last year with Weber in his Restricted negotiations, they offered him 4.5 mill and hoped he would take a hometown discount. He eventually got 7.5, and will get more after this season. I'm sure they low-balled Suter as well, because Weber was quoted during the All-Star media day saying 'Im surprised Suter held it all in until now"... Sounds like frustration to me. Nashville is a nice city, but as someone else said... there are other nice places to live.........

I'm 30 minutes from Bridgestone Arena (transplanted) and the only time they actually give a hoot about the team is when the Titans are finished for the season, and Vanderbilt and the U of Tennessee aren't having good years in basketball. They are currently ranked 21st out of 30 teams in average attendance.

But..... if they deal Suter, they will know it was money.... If they deal Tootoo, people would dump tickets left and right. I kid you not.

So why not give Suter what he's worth come July 1st? If Kenny can keep his cap hit under 7m then why not go for it? The Wings will have the cap space to sign both him and probably a top 6 forward. They also will know before July what the future for Nick is. They will never get Suter from the Preds it has to be a FA signing.
