The number of cups a team has, has little to do with whether I hate them or not. It's really all about particular players, specific incidents, etc.

All them years making it to the playoffs and consecutively and no Lord Stanleys to show for it... Come on man, be for real, please.

Kelly Chase, Tony Twist, Backes, nickol, jackman just to name a few. these guys hate the wings. Being from st. louis I have relatives that run into or know these guys pretty well. The blues alumni love jackman for his aggressive play against the wings and his hatred for them. I get crap for wearing my wings shirts all the time. During game days against the Red Wings the local ESPN radio show calls it "Punch a Wings fan in the face day". I get a lot of crap for wearing Wings socks in pick up games. fans around here just do not like anything to do with the wings. Some places that I play I can't even wear anything Red Wings without getting cheap shots or just completely ignored on the ice. There is a lot of hatred and will only get worse if the new playoff format is approved. The good thing is that when going to blues vs Red Wings games if you are respectful and knowledgable the blues fans leave you alone or will have a decent conversation with you. Rarely have I ever had a problem going to the games, gentle ribbing every once in a while.

Cprice, you are classic...please enlighten us on the players that you know for a fact hate the Wings and provide us with the players statements that prove it. We already know you are jealous and that is why you hate.

I personally only dislikes teams because of their idiot fans who think they know stuff, but they really dont....ie Blues.

I don't have any quotes on hand. Not something I collect and save. Sorry.

But my comment stems from years of hearing occasional comments made by players & former players. TV & radio interviews, or even talking to them in person. I've spent a few games in the press box talking with a few former players (Chase, Twist, MacInnis), radio broadcasters, etc. I talk with Chris Kerber (Blues PBP radio voice) every now and then as I was doing some web work for him, and we've talked about the team's underlying hatred for certain teams, including the Red Wings. One of the games that I was in the press box, was against the Hawks...and the topic of rivalries came up...and Detroit was mentioned as a team a lot of the players couldn't stand.

A buddy of mine that I did the St. Louis Blues Radio podcast with has press credentials and interviews players all of the time. I can get more info for you on this topic if you want to obsess over it.

I've already said I'm not jealous of the Red Wings for anything. The fact you keep saying it doesn't somehow make it true. I'm being honest. No jealousy...just a sports rivalry hatred that stems from too many incidents on the ice to mention.

And I'm not sure what you think I don't know. Why would I come on here and lie? I just tell it like it is. So there you go.

What players didn't/don't you like? Lidstrom? Yzerman? Osgood? Datsyuk? I known I'm coming from a complete bias here, but I can't really think of many Wings players in recent history that have had cause for people to hate them. Maybe some people like Chelios and Maltby, but there were never REALLY hateable, more just annoying to oppositions.

I don't hate Yzerman. You'd think I would because of that 2OT goal in game 7 back in the day...but I hate Gretzky for coughing the puck up to #19 right before the goal.

The only nice thing I can say about any of the Blues is that I like the fact that David Backes flew to Texas and brought back three rescued dogs. As a dog lover and owner, I do admire him for that - but that's where it ends.

I totally understand why an opposing fan would hate Backes. He's very physical...he fights...he scores...and he backs down from nobody. And throw in the occasional cheap shot in a scrum, and there you go.

But from a Blues fan's perspective... he's a great captain and a fan favorite. Best cap'n had in quite a while.

Do you actually think a player in a city is gonna say how much they like another team? Especially knowing that the fans hate that said team? You are a bigger idiot than I thought. Lest we forget that you come in here trying to act all nice and not jealous sounding, but in your own forum you say the things you say...Remember that Chelios "said" he would never play in Detroit because he "hated" them so much...need I remind you where Chelios lives and thrives right now? How long did he play in Detroit? Where did his kids go to school and where is his Son playing College hockey right now? I am not saying he is in love with Detroit and wouldn't have been happy playing somewhere else, but the fact is, players say things to the local media and fans that they want to hear. Why do you think Chelios gets booed in Chicago now? Because the fans actually thought he hated Detroit so much that he would NEVER play there. Sorry hawks fans... Bottom line? This is where a player goes to win a Cup, and I guess that in itself is enough for NO player to hate the Wings when it comes down to his REAL opinion.

Lol some of the names I would have imagined, mainly because they're chippy and get in your face... like certain hockey players are supposed to! And surely by virtue of hating people like Probert and Chelios (probably because one gave a few blues a lickin' over the years, and the other did well to annoy and draw penalties), but surely you must then hate Chicago, as they have both had them at one point or another? The way players are shopped around these days you can't really say you hate a team because of them. And as for Dats, Howard, HASEK(?!), even Drapes... I can't really think of many people, regardless of alligence, who could say they actually HATE those players. They're all consumate professionals who've never really done anything wrong.

EDIT: Not to mention, I'm sure you'd have taken any of those names off in a shot, if they had given some years to the Blues. Because they are/were all fantastic at the roles they were given in a team.

And I wasn't aware my personal hatred of players had to pass through your legitimacy filter first. Sorry, but I can hate a player for whatever reason I want. And again, it has nothing to do with how they are as a person (usually). I'm sure most of them are great guys, great teammates. This is all on-ice stuff I'm referring to that rubbed me the wrong way...so strictly a sports fan's take.

I'm a Blues fan. I was born with an inner hatred for the Hawks. The players have nothing to do with it as far as the Hawks go. I'll hate that team no matter who is on it. But douchebag Kane makes it easy to hate them right now.

Datsyuk, I don't like him because he's good and he's burned us more times than I care to think about. It's as simple as that. Plus there was the whole scouting incident mishap with the Blues scout when he was still in Russia. That's just a punch in the face to Blues fans.

Howard, I don't like him because he wrongly attacked Perron earlier this year, and took a swing at half a dozen Blues players in another game. Plus, he's a chippy guy. He'll throw punches and get in guy's faces with little provocation. Which I am sure you guys love, but when he does it to a Blues player, yeah, it's easy to dislike him. Especially when he makes comments after the game trying to justify attacking a guy, when the guy was shoved into him in the first place. Just a stupid thing to say.

He was going to come here, or so it was said, but he wanted to know who the Blues were going to keep and who they were going to trade before the season started. He made a big stink about it and of course the Blues aren't going to share that info with anyone, especially a player who is still a free agent. So he refused to sign here and went to Detroit instead. At least that is the story. And then, he goes on to be a thorn in our sides in numerous matchups with Detroit.
Just a bitter situation all around.

It's one of those things where if he's on your team, you love him...but if he's on the other team, you hate him.

Never really understood the whole point of hating another team. I am happy when the Wings win, I'm irritated when they lose. Their winning implies that whoever we play has to lose, so in that regard I'd like to see other teams lose, but if they aren't playing the Wings then who gives a s***? Seems kind of pathetic to be overcome with sheer delight when a team wins or loses and it's not even the team you'r a fan of. The Chicago Blackhawks, or the Blues, or Rangers or whoever, are not Al Qaeda for Christ's sake. In my opinion this is some obnoxious thing "macho" sports fans do to make a bigger deal out of a game then it really is. Celebrate when we win, be bummed for about two minutes when we lose, and then go read to your kids or something.
