I've changed the topic of this thread...but I can't change the title.

***

My All-Red Wings team since the 90's:

Shannahan-Yzerman-Hull

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Hossa

Kozlov-Larionov-Fedorov

Probert-Primeau-McCarty

*Franzen

Lidstrom-Murphy

Coffey-Chelios

Fetisov-Konstantinov

*Kronwall

Hasek

Vernon

*Osgood

HC: Bowman

***

Notes:

Forwards - Ciccarrelli, Sheppard, Gallant, Ysebaert, Carson, Federko and Burr I don't really remember seeing (I was born in 1987), so I didn't really consider them. Robataille I really strongly considered, mostly because of the 'legend,' but in all reality, he was just never that great for us.

Defensemen - Chiasson, Racine, Howe and McCrimmon I don't really remember seeing, so I didn't really consider them. Rafalski I really strongly considered...but IMHO, Kronwall's always just been a more 'complete' player.

Goalies - Cheveldae I don't really remember seeing. I sort of wanted to put Howard on the team over Osgood (not the 1997 Conn Smythe winner, Mike Vernon). He's playing out of his mind right now. But I ultimately decided that I just have to wait and see if he can do it on THE big stage first.

Put together your own all-Red Wings team. The best guys that you've actually ever seen on the ice out there.

Me (I was born in 1987):

Shannahan-Datsyuk-Fedorov

Zetterberg Sheppard-Yzerman-Hossa

Clark Robitaille-Larionov-Hull

Probert Kozlov-Primeau Lapointe-McCarty Brown

Franzen Gallant

Lidstrom-Konstantinov

Coffey-Chelios

Kronwall Fetisov-Murphy

Rafalski Larson

Hasek

Vernon Osgood

Howard

Bowman

Demers

Those are my changes to your already great lineup! I also need to mention Adam Oates and Adam Graves, both of whom played here before their prime, but I would have loved to have on this team for their career!

You would take Hossa, who's only been here one season, over Z who's won a cup AND a conn smythe as a Red Wing?

Shanahan - Yzerman - Fedorov

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Hull

Holmstrom - Larionov - Franzen

Maltby - Draper - McCarty

Listrom - Chelios

Kronwall - Rafalski

Fetisov - Murphy

Hasek

Osgood

Man...I do not remember Fetisov being better than Vladdy. The other picks you have...Holmstrom, Maltby, Draper over Hossa, Probert, and Primeau I'm assuming are just personal favorites lol.

Sheppard, I've heard great things about, but I just don't really remember seeing much of him.

Robatille, I just don't remember him having that big of an impact with us.

Kozlov and Lapointe I really liked, I just liked the other guys more (wanted a real tough grind line).

Doug Brown?? Really, lol.

Gallant - Never saw.

Fetisov - Man, I knew he was a really great player in Russia, but I never thought he was close to Vladdy when I was watching.

Larson - Never saw.

Well, you need a balanced lineup. That checking line I listed is the best one we had.

I was 10 when Probert last played for the Wings. My memory of him is strictly through watching his fight tapes and his days in Chicago. Same with Primeau, though he wouldn't make the list anyway from what I hear about his Detroit days.

Hossa was great here (in the regular season). His choke in the playoffs omits him from the list.

Vladdy was indeed better than Fetisov in Detroit, but I guess I picked Slava because of his all time ranking. I could go either way on that.

Must admit that I'm kind of going with Probert because of the legend and youtube footage as well. Primeau I do remember enough of...and in video games too, lol. And he fought Probert in practice once, there's footage of that online. So he makes my grind line. Probert-Primeau-McCarty. I'll take that over Maltby-Draper-McCarty any day of the week. Would have liked to throw Lapointe on the line...but I don't really remember him ever being able to play center.

I've completely revamped the thread lol:

I've changed the topic of this thread...but I can't change the title.

The All-Red Wings team since the 90's:

Shannahan(W)-Yzerman©-Cicarelli(RW)

Lidstrom(L)-Murphy®

Hasek

Hossa(W)-Datsyuk©-Franzen(W)

Coffey(L)-Chelios®

Vernon

Kozlov(LW)-Larionov©-Fedorov(C,W,D)

Fetisov(L)-Konstantinov®

Robitaille(LW)-Zetterberg(C,LW)-Hull(RW)

HC: Bowman

*scratches: Probert(LW), Kronwall(L), Osgood

Thoughts on the Selections:

-Forwards: Kozlov probably didn't deserve to be on this team, but I wanted to get the Russian Five together, so I moved some things around. Probert is the 13th forward on this team, basically, because he's hands down the best enforcer that we've had since the 90's, and you might need him to dress against some teams. Sheppard, Gallant, Ysebaert, Carson, Federko and Burr I just don't remember very well. Maybe some of them deserved to be on the team? Lang, Holmstrom, Williams, Hudler, Lapointe, McCarty and Verbeek (and Ray Whitney, who I also considered) just never impressed me as much as the guys I picked. Primeau I did kind of want to get on the team, but he was a victim of Kozlov. Cicarelli I didn't really remember that well, but it's hard to ignore the legend. Robataille didn't have the best seasons with us...but I wanted him to be a part of the squad. Wendell Clark I also considered - just because he was my favorite non-wing when we acquired him - but didn't pull the trigger on due to what he actually did for us.

-Defensemen: Chiasson, Racine, Howe and McCrimmon I don't really remember that well. Maybe some of them deserved to be on this team? Rafalski, Schneider and Duchense all had some nice seasons for us, but none of those guys ever really impressed me as much as the seven I picked.

-Goales: Mike Vernon never won more than 21 games in a regular season with us, but his 1997 playoff performance was just about the best I had ever seen from one of our goalies (remember it was him, not Yzerman, that won the Conn Smythe); so I thought he deserved a spot on this team. I kind of wanted to go with Howard as the third goalie (he's playing out of his mind right now), but I ultimately decided that I still have to wait to see him prove that he can do IT before I can even think about putting him ahead of Osgood. Cheveldae I don't really remember very well. Legace I was never really impressed with. Joseph I was never really impressed with.

I agree with the teams that have Draper, Maltby, McCarty, and Holmstrom. Sure guys like Ciccarelli, Primeau, Sheppard, etc. were better, but Draper, Maltby, McCarty, and Holmstrom were all on the 4 Cup winners.

Realizing this isn't about naming favorite teams but those entire teams were all my favorites per se but as far as lines go I guess I will go with:

Shanahan - Yzerman - Fedorov

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Probert - Larionov - Hull

Maltby - Draper - McCarty

Lidstrom - Rafalski

Kronwall - Konstantinov

Fischer (Oh, what could have been) - Murphy

Hasek

Osgood

EDIT: Had to make one more tweak there.

Sorry, I thought the topic said "All Time FAVORITE Team" not all time best...although Doug Brown was FAR better than McCarty anyhow, so he would make the list over him to begin with...

Uh.....ya. Hossa was our last true sniper since Hull. Besides the topic is all time favorite team, not all time winningest or tenured. Zetterberg wouldn't even make my second all time favorite team. I like him, and he is good, but in my history of hockey, I have other favorites than him. If this was an all time best players I have seen list, then sure, he would be listed...

Also, you list Primeau on there, he was traded before you were 10, do you honestly remember seeing him play, or are you factoring in his days in Philly? He really only had one great season here, and I barely remember that and I was 24 when he had his 73 points. I am not questioning if he is one of your favorites or shouldn't be on your list, just curious as to how much you actually remember of him.

lol, well, honestly...before I was 10 was when I was when I was playing an awful lot of NHL 95 with Primeau.

besides, I wanted to put together a really tough grind line. who was our next toughest center?

(I just went for my favorites here, please be gentle)

Shanahan - Yzerman - Gallant (I debated Sheppard for Gallant, but the stache won)

Kozlov - Larionov - Fedorov (How can you NOT reunite the Russian 5 in a thread like this?)

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Hull (Probably my second favorite line ever, behind the Rooskies)

Probert - Mac - Kocur (Yes, I realize there is no center on this line... but manoman would this have been fun to watch)

Lidstrom - Coffey

Papa Bear - Vladdy

Murphy - Fischer

Hasek

Vernon

Also rans: Draper, Dino, Chaisson, Rafalski, Helm, Pushor (remember I said it was favorites, right?)

In all honesty, I think pound for pound Marty Lapointe was a tougher center than Primeau. When I think of Primeau I just always think of this:

He just never had a chance here with Yzerman and Fedorov as the #1 and #2 centers, same as Jimmy Carson, just couldn't get the icetime...

edit: And before you tell me that Lapointe was a RW, he was drafted as a center and played that position in Adirondack and early in his tenure with Detroit. He excelled at a few forward postions.

I really liked Lapointe...I just never saw him play center. And when I think of Probert, I think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO-QR5V9DkA

Fighting Probert as a young prospect in training camp. Was Lapointe really tougher than that? Primeau put up a ton more points too, and was a #2 overall pick I think (over Jagr)

I did say pound for pound, so yes LaPointe was tougher than Primeau. He was #3 overall and it was a huge mistake of a pick. Especially with all the talent that was drafted that year, but hey, the draft is a gamble.

this is purely an opinion thread, so we're not arguing here...but for me, overall toughness > 'pound-for-pound' toughness'
