2probert4 8 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Per Aaron Ward on twitter. TSN also reporting possible broken finger https://twitter.com/#!/DarrenDreger/status/165440134832078848 Following up @aaronward_nhl and news on Jimmy Howard injury. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 TSN also reporting possible broken finger Probably happened on that "equipment problem" stoppage he had, he looked somewhat uncomfortable during that. Maybe just taped it up or something. Regardless, I am hoping this is a quick healing process, not really what we need. 1 Rick D reacted to this
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) Details to come but Joey has been called up. Per Darren Dreger. @DarrenDreger: Following up @aaronward_nhl and news on Jimmy Howard injury. It's suspected Howard suffered a broken finger. #TSN We all saw Van Zant take a look at Howard on the bench quickly last night. This is what must have happened. With the way Conks has been playing... The Wings could be in serious trouble if Jimmy is affected by this injury to the extent of missing time or playing worse. This is too bad because his glove has been sick this year. Will the Wings make a trade for a tender now? Can the Wings maintain their place on top of the league without a solid goaltender? Will Jimmy be good to go for the playoffs? Will our younger viewers get this Soap reference? EDIT: updates. Edited February 3, 2012 by Majsheppard 2 hooon and Jasper84 reacted to this
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Well, good luck, Conks. Show us what you've got. Better this happens now than in April. 7 DatZetterfanfromSC, WizardOfOz30, Nev and 4 others reacted to this

McAwesome 754 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Sucks, but if it's just a broken finger then he shouldn't miss too much time. Conklin has been playing better of late, and Howard could use the break so he has something left in the tank come playoff time. Favorable schedule for the next 2 weeks, next big test is likely Nashville at home on the 17th, hopefully Jimmy can be back by then.

Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Damn. Well that sucks. But you know this could be good for Conks. The team really, really needs him to be good now.
Din758 371 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) I think youre a little too hard on conks right now. Hes been playing pretty well lately besides the games in NYI and MTL when his team didnt show up. Big wins in chicago and in dallas. Im not worried about Conks play. edit: plus look at our schedule the next 2 weeks, which is about how long the finger will take to heal. 7 games, 5 at home. only good teams we play are philly (struggling lately) and NSH. Were going to be OK Edited February 3, 2012 by Din758 2 55fan and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Were going to be OK I'm still not sold that Conks is "back". He's performed better recently, but his record and stats still give me the heebie-jeebies: 3-5-0 (10GP), 3.20 GAA, .886 SV% And that's with one shutout in the mix too. I'm not panicking though, honestly. Our defense just needs to play even better in front of him. No odd-man rushes, no lazy line changes, etc.
Zetterling 16 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Well, if they splint it up right 6-8 weeks to heal. Then probably still splinted. Should be good by playoffs.

Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Perhaps some good news here? https://twitter.com/#!/georgemalik/status/165450459123941376 The press release says two GAMES, not two WEEKS. Well, maybe only two games... https://twitter.com/#!/DetroitRedWings/status/165450903636295680 Howard will miss the next two games of the Wings four-game road trip and will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Detroit on Tuesday. If it truly is only two games, then it's not too big a deal. Conks to get work in Edmonton and in Phoenix. After that, the next game is back home against Edmonton, and it's not on a back to back, so it still gives a little time for Jimmy to heal.
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Well, maybe only two games... https://twitter.com/...450903636295680 Pretty certain it happened in the 3rd and he played the rest of the game so I am guessing he will get a little healing time and be right back out there. Ty will step it up, no panic here.
WizardOfOz30 1,886 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 I hope Babcock actually learns something from this....like the fact that you need to play your back up more often so the team can feel confident in front of him. I'm sure Ty can handle it but I'm not sure how the team feels with him in net. I hope Howard isn't out too long, but this the reason I do not like the way Babs has been handling the goalie situation last couple of seasons. If he doesn't have faith in the guys we have he needs to get management to work on finding someone. Looking forward to seeing Conklin put a good effort in the upcoming games. 2 Miss Wing Queen and IllinoisRedWingsFan reacted to this

Ty will step it up, no panic here. Didn't look too serious. It happened with 18:22 left in the third. Lapierre's shot went under Howard's blocker and got his fingers. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 If it's 2 games, we can forfeit those and still be in pretty good position to keep pace. No worries. 2 greenrebellion and Rick D reacted to this
Din758 371 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Im not totally sold on numbers when it come to backup goalies. They come in when games are usually already over (MTL) and the mindset of a team playing in front is different. The key to a good backup goalie is to keep you in games by make key saves, not making every save. The team needs to play better. Will be a good rest for Jimmy anyway on an otherwise easy part of the sched. 1 edicius reacted to this
