I dont know about the average Detroit fan but for me Thursday February 23 will be a touchstone game for the entire season and for both of these teams. Last year Detroit wasn't up to Vancouver's caliber of play and rightfully, did not face them in the playoffs. This year I absolutely demand a playoff series for all our sakes; we want this premier playoff matchup to happen in 2012 and it will!
This game will stage the Western Conference final, and it will end with the Canucks in six.

I don't see it as big as what most Canuck fans think it is. I would rather not have Detroit lose either of these next two games against Chicago and Vancouver, but reality says we will fall to one of them or atleast drop a game in the near future. To think the Wings can continue their outstanding streak at home for the remainder of the season with majority games being played at home is unrealistic. To think Thursday's game is anything more than a regular season game, well you'd have to be a Vancouver fan.

What makes you think Detroit wasn't up to Vancouver's standards last year? Vancouver is not really all that huge of a threat to Detroit.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, Vancouver games mean no more than Phoenix games. It's just another game on the schedule that I'd like to win.

gotta agree on the diagnosis. would be nice to steal points in the run for top spot in West, but other than that it's just another game.
if anything Sharks game was big from Wings perspective as we needed to beat this ** for the sake of excorcizing demons.
for the rest I'd say - starting end of March I'll bother about any games featuring teams from Pacific and from Alberta which creep around
those last playoff spots. this looks like sure match right now, but if there's any way Wings would have spared air miles and still play
an easier opponent - I'll be rooting for it.

I agree. You have to bring yourself down to Canucks fan mentality. They have never won anything so they have to find something to treat as their Stanley Cup.

What? No. If anything, when it comes to Babs it's another game. Babcock doesn't have the mindframe that THIS GAME IS EVERYTHING, he wants that done every game. I don't think ANYONE thinks this is more than a regular season game other than Vancouver fans. Just like I feel the Sharks victory wasn't that great because they're currently in the middle of their 9 game away stand.

I live in Vancouver and I despise the Canucks as much as anyone but it's true. If we met Vancouver last year in the playoffs, no way we'd get past them. We had enough troubles with San Jose and they got spanked by the Canucks. BUT this year ... I like the matchup and I think it'd be a great series. I hope we get them.
As for Thurs, probably one of the biggest test for the home game win streak but as others have said, sooner or later it will happen but I hope that extra desire to keep it going will put us over the visitors!
