aMonster 96 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 I dont know about the average Detroit fan but for me Thursday February 23 will be a touchstone game for the entire season and for both of these teams. Last year Detroit wasn't up to Vancouver's caliber of play and rightfully, did not face them in the playoffs. This year I absolutely demand a playoff series for all our sakes; we want this premier playoff matchup to happen in 2012 and it will! This game will stage the Western Conference final, and it will end with the Canucks in six. 1 vladdy16 reacted to this

evilzyme 769 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 I don't see it as big as what most Canuck fans think it is. I would rather not have Detroit lose either of these next two games against Chicago and Vancouver, but reality says we will fall to one of them or atleast drop a game in the near future. To think the Wings can continue their outstanding streak at home for the remainder of the season with majority games being played at home is unrealistic. To think Thursday's game is anything more than a regular season game, well you'd have to be a Vancouver fan. 6 13dangledangle, TheDetroitRedWings, hooon and 3 others reacted to this
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 What makes you think Detroit wasn't up to Vancouver's standards last year? Vancouver is not really all that huge of a threat to Detroit.
vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, Vancouver games mean no more than Phoenix games. It's just another game on the schedule that I'd like to win. 9 Electrophile, hooon, TheDetroitRedWings and 6 others reacted to this

akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 gotta agree on the diagnosis. would be nice to steal points in the run for top spot in West, but other than that it's just another game. if anything Sharks game was big from Wings perspective as we needed to beat this ** for the sake of excorcizing demons. for the rest I'd say - starting end of March I'll bother about any games featuring teams from Pacific and from Alberta which creep around those last playoff spots. this looks like sure match right now, but if there's any way Wings would have spared air miles and still play an easier opponent - I'll be rooting for it. puckbags 863 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 "...touchstone..." I don't think so; it's just 1/82 of the schedule. I agree. You have to bring yourself down to Canucks fan mentality. They have never won anything so they have to find something to treat as their Stanley Cup. 3 haroldsnepsts, TheDetroitRedWings and evilzyme reacted to this
Krayzie_Bone 58 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 Man I would love to go to that game. I can not wait to watch it although the streak has to end somewhere and I think it may against the canucks.

Red Crazy 201 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 It's a big game no doubt. I think that it will be used by Babcock as a measure to see where his teams at. He will for sure have this game circled on his calander. 1 Bring Back The Bruise Bros reacted to this

He will for sure have this game circled on his calander. What? No. If anything, when it comes to Babs it's another game. Babcock doesn't have the mindframe that THIS GAME IS EVERYTHING, he wants that done every game. I don't think ANYONE thinks this is more than a regular season game other than Vancouver fans. Just like I feel the Sharks victory wasn't that great because they're currently in the middle of their 9 game away stand. 1 sleepwalker reacted to this

RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 I live in Vancouver and I despise the Canucks as much as anyone but it's true. If we met Vancouver last year in the playoffs, no way we'd get past them. We had enough troubles with San Jose and they got spanked by the Canucks. BUT this year ... I like the matchup and I think it'd be a great series. I hope we get them. As for Thurs, probably one of the biggest test for the home game win streak but as others have said, sooner or later it will happen but I hope that extra desire to keep it going will put us over the visitors! hooon 1,089 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) Meh. What's with other teams fans coming in and making pre-game posts like this? You are either setting out to gloat like a troll if the Nucks win or get absolutely ridiculed if they lose. And weren't all Canucks fans saying the LAST game between these teams was the year's biggest "measuring stick"? Where'd the Canucks measure in that one? Like others have said, this is a regular season game with 2 points on the line, nothing more, nothing less. Its like fans think their team will get more than 2 points in the standings if they beat the Wings. Detroit will and should just be focused on the two points. If you want to think it means something about the postseason, so be it. I'll just wait for the actual playoffs. Just like I feel the Sharks victory wasn't that great because they're currently in the middle of their 9 game away stand. I never said "This game means everything" but if you think any NHL coach does not look at the schedule and pay close attention to when the big match ups are coming up then you are crazy. Is this a must win game? No. Does Babcock want to win every game? yes. Will this game determine who will win the Cup? No. The point I was trying to make is that all big games give the coach a feeling on how their team is and how they compare to teams that they might play come playoff time. So will the players and the coaches treat this as just any old game? They had better not or they will get smoked. Vancouver is right on our heels in the standings and home ice advantage is huge. I will agree that Vancouver fans are making this up to be the Stanley Cup Finals. One can only hope that the Wings spank them and they burn their own city to the ground! LeonardSankar 434 Report post Posted February 20, 2012 Will its a huge game with regards to getting the top seed in the conference as I think the Wings do need it if they want to beat the Canucks if they do in fact meet up in the West finals. I would imagine the Wings will drop the game at Chicago tomorrow and then have a tough test at home with those cry babies from Vancouver.
