Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

Lets look at this short term fellas: top 4 D-man playing in the 3rd pairing for us in exchange for a pick whom we wouldn't see for at least 4 years......

I love this pickup

And therein lies (lays?!) another point. Deetroit's got so much depth now some of those kids hanging out in Grand Rapids and elsewhere will go to waste anyway.

This. I would be surprised to see Stu back now anyway because i would hope we didnt trade a 1st for a 3rd pairing guy. I would imagine they want to give Quincey Stuart's playing time.

If Lidstrom returns the D pairings would look something like this:

Lidstrom/White

Kronwall/Quincey

Ericsson/Smith

Looks like Kindl, Commadore, and Stuart are as good as gone at the deadline or in the offseason.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie

DET likes/knows Quincey, former Wing. Good insurance if Brad Stuart goes to UFA or Lidstrom retires, tho many in DET think Nick comes back.

likes/knows quincey hahaha that makes me laugh liked him so much they put him on waivers for derek meech ... good move

Piche isn't an NHL d-man. So he's a throw-in that doesn't hurt the Wings in the slightest.

This is a late, late, LATE (we're talking 26th overall max) 1st rounder for Quincey. Q's on pace for 33pts last time I checked and is an instant upgrade for our third pairing and 2nd PP unit.

Hudler can move to the wing on the 2nd pairing, sliding Quincey into his place beside Kronwall.

Don't forget that Quincey really bloomed as an NHL player since being waived by the Wings. Last week when I was scouring his stats (I made a case in a forum post for the Wings to trade for him) he was leading all Colorado d-men in ice time per game, points, goals and shorthanded points.

I would trade Thomas McCollum and/or Landon Ferraro for Kyle Quincey in a heartbeat.

I don't think Kindl will be moved as the team can carry eight defencemen because of the injured forwards.

I'm quite sure Holland has no problem in re-signing Quincey so this trade is also about getting ready for the departures of Lidström and Stuart. They might return for next season but will probably be gone in few years anyhow. Wings have now five good young defencemen in White, Quincey, Ericsson, Kindl and Smith.

You clearly weren't paying attention when they waived him. Q played his way off the roster while Meech was playing much better.

And we even tried trading him and no one wanted him. He had one average playoffs and then with his poor attitude and play he played himself out of Detroit.

Guest Hatethedrake!

I think it's a good trade. Quincey is a good dman and is still young. I'd rather have him than a 34 year old Kubina. Now we just need a forward and we're set.

He's still just 26 and he's an upgrade over Ericsson, Kindl and Commodore. I'd say he's worth of a late first rounder.

Quincey is 26, and he's RFA.... Remember, nobody knows if Brad Stuart returns next season, this is a way of covering a spot. But there will be logjam, especially if they use Brendan Smith next season as well.... Prices are a little high when the Wings are involved at the deadline, everyone should know that.

I may be in the minority here, but I think this is a nice deal. Kyle is a big upgrade over Kindl, he is much better (maybe not tougher) than Commodore, he will be a nice addition here. Welcome back Kyle!

and for those who think a first was too much, not only is the first gonna be at least in the bottom 4, it may be #30 overall, just like everyone is saying, but consider this, when was the last time Holland even used his first? The first is so low every year he usually trades it away for another 2nd round pick. Which he has done at least the last two season's. This could mean Holland isn't done, he has said Smith will be coming up soon to get some playing time, maybe Kindl is on his way out, who know's. But as minor as this deal was, it is a little exciting. Quincey will make an impression, trust me. Where are all the folks that were complaining just last week about how we lost him to waivers a few years ago. They should be happy!

Now please Holland, SNIPER, POWER PLAY SPECIALISTS, PLEASE!!!!

Here is what really doesn't make sense. The wings gave up a pick AND Sebadtian Piche. The lightning were giving up Steve downie essentially for those 2 assets. I don't pay much attention to Tampa but he is pretty good right? So what gives?

Not a fan of this one. Only thing I can think of is IF Kindl is out the door soon. I still want Shea Weber.

Seriously doubt that we get him...... They wont trade with us, and I'm not sold on Holland giving a player 8 mill per season...

doesnt mean it was the right move back then and it definetly shows it wasnt , he was still 6'2 200+ pounds , meech is what 5"10 ???didnt like that move back then and i hate it even more now

how many years ago was that ? and he had a subpar preseason agreed.... If they had it to do over again, im pretty sure Meech would have been gone.

pierre mcguire just said detroit has alot of travis moens and cant see them going for him but rather a skilled forward .... ya well thats where the 1st rounder would of come in handy , dont see it happening now

and he also said detroit was in for rick nash bigtime and really liked him but dropped out when the demands got ridiculously high .... thank god

I like this trade on a few levels; He's an upgrade in the 5-6 pairing. He can eat minutes. He definitely upgrades the depth the Wings will need in the war that will be the Western Conference playoffs. He's a RFA not a rental. It's barely a dent in the Red Wings cap space.

It also shows the Wings are thinking "Death or Glory."

A smart reasoned trade I think. After a possible President's trophy where would that #1 pick be exactly?
