Bertuzzi Contract Extension

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

The way Homer has talked about the Winter Classic, I think he (and Nick) will be back for 1 more season. I think Stuart is as good as gone.

Oh gosh, seriously just no. I like the guy, he's been fantastic for us over so many years, but he's done.

As per Bob McKenzie:

Todd Bertuzzi's two-year (over 35) extension with DET is $1.975M in Year 1 and $2.175M in Year 2 for an AAV of $2.075M. #TradeCentre #tsn
Bertuzzi also has an NTC. #TradeCentre #tsn
Of the $1.975M Bertuzzi gets next season, $200K of it is a signing bonus payable this July 1.

does anyone know if nyquist can play another year in the ahl without being claimed on waivers ??

With this move i cant see the redwings bringing up nyquist as well as tatar( whos out of waivers options as of next year) unless hudler is not coming back or if nquist is starts in the 4th line which i think would be pointless , he needs top 6 opportunities or its just a waste of time

Both Nyquist and Tatar are exempt next year. Andersson might be out though. Not sure if it goes by the date of his ELC, or his amatuer tryout contract.

Pretty sure it's based on when they signed their entry level contract.

Edit: More detail...

Exempt Due to Experience

This is the meat and potatoes of determining waiver eligibility. Three key factors determine whether a player is waiver eligible; age, years of experience, and # of games played..

Age is defined as the age of the player when he signs his entry-level contract with an NHL club. This is used to determine the thresholds for the players' waiver eligibility. The thresholds are the number of years from signing a professional contract, and the number of professional games played.

Depending on the age as determined above, a player is waiver eligible for a certain number of years from the year in which he signed his first contract, as shown below.

Goalies Skaters

Age Years Age Years

18 6* 18 5*

19 5* 19 4*

20 4 20 3

21 4 21 3

22 4 22 3

23 3 23 3

24 2 24 2

25+ 1 25+ 1

You are so right there is more than hockey than production. Like defense, which he doesn't play.

He actually is a much worse player than his offensive numbers let on. I am not a fan of Bertuzzi in any way shape or form. I don't mind him as a depth player... but when you already see us in a number crunch of how many people we can have on our team. I don't like him being the first one added.

I want to say many have cited how he plays with Pavel and they expect more of him. Some have said it is unfair.

I would like to go the opposite direction... Instead of saying how much more production you expect out of Bert when playing with Pavel, what about saying how much more production Pavel could get with a better finisher. Pavel is a player who makes people better by giving space on the ice and making strong passes. Bert is slow and not really a sniper. He can go to the net pretty hard, but slowly.

When there is extra space on the ice, you need someone who can quickly move from gap to gap, or find the soft spot and rip a shot. Need I remind you how Brett and Pav played together???

I think Bert would play much better on a heavy line where the puck is cycled along the boards and players crash the net hard. I always like him and Cleary together and think Helm or abs would be a great third on that line.

Fact is he is an anchor to the top two lines, and is part of the reason IMO that Zetter's production is lacking. Franzen and Bert are too much alike for us to have them both in the top six.

He should be the guy last in line that Holland goes to and say, we will give you a one year for x dollars if you make the team. He shouldn't be taking a roster spot and contract right off the bat. This contract wouldn't bother me as much if it was the last signing of next year's off season and he was a bit cheaper. Not much, but like 200k would have made a bunch of difference in 2013-14. This money should be going to Helm and Abs, not Bert. Holland clearly wants to make him the new Homer.

Holland is pissing me off this month.

I happen to run into Mike and Marion Illitch at the Fox Theatre and I told them all about this post and about how much more hockey savy you have than Kenny Holland, Jim Nil, and Mike Babcock. Dude, they so want to hook up with you. They will be at the Little Ceasers at 7447 Gratiot Ave tomorrow morning and want to take you to the Machus Red Fox for brunch to talk about your ideas.

I like this signing. I think the raise is due to the fact that he has worked out better than anyone first thought. He would get more now on the open market because of showcasing himself in Detroit for the last two years.

While Nyquist and Tatar need some ice time, they are 5'10 185. Bertuzzi is 6'3", 220, has awesome hands, is an excellent passer, has leanred to play D and Babcock says he is now a great shut down guy, and he has ragdolled Dion Phanueff, Shane Patatos OBrien, and many others. When Maxim Lapierre is runnin around taking indecent liberties with Red WIngs players, is Nyquist going to skate right up to Vancouver's bench and tell him to cool his f***in jets? No, but Bert has that sort of respect from every team in the league, and nobody wants to tangle with him. They know that f*****'s dangerously strong. He's got a great edge to his game.

Pavs, Franzen, and Bert is an awesome line.

How many guys can pass and make plays like him, win shootouts like him, and protect teammates like him? He may be half the beast he used to be, but he is still a very effective player, and still a HUGE presence that teams need to decide what to do with.
