Just Say 'No' to Mikael Samuelsson

it is kinda obvious.....When he shoots the puck at the net, he hits the goalie right in the logo on a consistent basis. (when he gets it on net that is)

I remember watching him in the playoffs in 09. I know he's no defenseman but he is a huge defensive liability even as a forward.

I was happy for his service to us on the bottom 6 (and that was with Val there as well, goodness we were stacked), so don't tarnish a good outing that got you a cup. Leave history be. I'm glad we've got people like Helm and Miller and Eaves in the bottom 6 so as not to need this guy back.

That being said....

Hehe Campbell you suck. Plus can't hear a word of what the commentator says after the puck goes in.

EDIT: Didn't actually put the video in, came up with a quote I used elsewhere :P

Sammy put up a big couple goals against the Pens in the cup run and an OT goal against the Hawks, so he is ok by me. We wouldn't be counting on him to get us there, just to help us win it. He has done that before. His defensive deficiencies were only glaring because we used his right hand shot on the point on the PP. Now with Ian White doing a fabulous job, Sammy wouldn't be killing shinguards on the blueline. Just please not long term though.

I have a feeling Detroit will end up getting Samuelsson. Holland is very big on players knowing Detroit's system and fitting in well. So you can move those players to the top of the list. Just putting a fresh face in the lineup doesn't mean it will work regardless of who it is... unless you are talking about a star player like Datsyuk.... and especially if there is only 6 weeks to go in the regular season.

I don't think he'll be coming back, but everyone on here dislikes him somewhat unfairly. Yes, he took a lot of bad shots, but when you have an offense of playmakers sometimes you need someone who will just get into a decent position and shoot the puck when he gets it. Not to mention his habit of coming up big, like in Game 1 of the 2008 SCF.

I still don't get why people hated Sammy so much when he was here. Yeah he was a logo hunter and shinguard assassin, but like I said, for the money he was a steal.

19 goals 40 points in 09

11 goals 40 points in 08

14 goals 34 points in 07

23 goals 45 points in 06

His contract was $1.2 million for all those seasons except 06, when it was $537,000.

Why? It's easy: people here are so accustomed to success that anyone who obviously isn't perfect is declared garbage. I still remember the amount of whining that was had about Kopecky in '08-'09.

Look at the standings again. Winnipeg is currently LEADING what is a race between three mediocre-at-best teams to win by far the worst division in the league.

I didn't say anything about their record, though, or where they sit in the standings. I was referring to team offense. You were using this season's statistics to support your implication that Hudler and Samuelsson don't belong in the same conversation. I pointed out that their ppg for the season is actually pretty close AND that Hudler plays on a much better offensive team. I gave you the goal amounts... but maybe this will clear my point up for you - Detroit is currently 4th in the league in goal scoring, and Florida is 26th. So, the points would be fewer and further between for Sammy than they would for Hudler because Hudler's team scores much more often.

Let's go back to last year when Samuelsson was also on a team with a good offense....

Hudler - 73 GP 10 G 27 A -7

Samuelsson - 75 GP 18 G 32 A +8

Sammy scored 30 goals the year before that. Hudler's career high is 23.

Kind of makes the argument the other way... but the stats from those seasons aren't really the whole story, are they? Neither are the stats from this season.

As for the use of the word 'sniper'.... I didn't say he was Brett Hull. I was talking about his style of play. You said Hudler was a better playmaker - I agree, but Samuelsson is not a playmaker. I would also probably agree with you that Hudler offers more to this team that Samuelsson and that, at this point, "Hudler > Samuelsson"... probably mostly because of the age difference. All I am saying is that it is not that clear cut who is better. It seems to me that you just jumped on the 'I hate Sammy' bandwagon and now you are just regurgitating the Sammy bashing that was commonplace on LGW from 2005-09. Sammy and Hudler each have advantages over the other. They are different types of players. I like both of them

I actually don't hate Samuelsson and I am not a bashed....hate is a strong word. I also am not ridin' the Sammy hate train. I have never been a fan...and all I said was that Hudler (IMO) is a better player than Sammy now. I think you agreed with me when you said " Hudler> Samuelsson probably mostly BC of the age difference"

I think we can find a better fit with another player

I don't see why Florida trades him anyway. He is a guy that can contribute offensively and that's what they need for a shot at/in the playoffs. He's the type of guy they will probably try to acquire before the deadline as it is.
