HankthaTank - Squirrels, they hate to be thrown. / Why is the magical unicorn named Brian... Jedi - I just downloaded the "kids" book, "Go the F--k to Sleep" as narrated by Samuel L. Jackson on my kindle. I am now ready to be a daddy. / *Checks Router* No, I'm positive I didn't hit the "Wings Defense Sucks" button. Electrophile - I'm just glad the Wings were able to win despite the Curse of Brian. ACallToArms - I think Trey needs to put something about payroll tax and deferred income in his sig... Edicius - I'd rather [have] a soundbite of me saying "I like (man sausage)" rather than "I like Crosby".

Ninja Mod wasn't quite so sneaky this time.Did a question mark just suddenly appear in the title? Because when I clicked on it to reply there wasn't one.

Karlsson will win, hes going to put up 80+ points. There should probably be an award for Best Offensive Defensemen and another for Best Defensenen.
No he won't. Points aren't the only dictator of whom will win the Norris. Karlsson has defensive collapses and still is learning how to play great defense. Sure, he can throw up some numbers and is doing so, but that doesn't mean he will be bringing the Norris home. Shea Weber will be the winner most likely.

If he wins it, it would be fine with me. Pure offensive guys in the past (Green) were in the mix, but lost out to other, complete defenders. In this case, Karlsson is like 20 points ahead of the next highest scoring d-man.

Actually neither Weber or Chara are having super impressive seasons. Imo Weber has been good enough for a couple of years now that he probably deserves a win, but if Chara wins it will be even more of a reputation win than when Lids won it last year.I love Nick, but too many other players having great seasons. I think it'll come down to Karlsson, Weber and Chara.
Karlsson is having a beast of a season though. He doesn't seem to be slowing down either. To me, he's not even close to good enough defensively to win it, but if he keeps putting up these points the voters might not care since guys like Lids, Chara and Weber will be so far behind.
Lids is having a great season though, even though he's not producing offensively like he has in the past. I think the voters will also look at how a guy like Ian White comes in and gets paired with Lidstrom and suddenly has a career year.

I never said I agreed with it, obviously he's not great in his own zone. But when you put up those kind of numbers, it's hard to be denied. No he won't. In general I just hope the Norris remains the best all around defenseman and people actually vote that way. I don't want it to go the way of the Selke, which has become best forward who scores a lot of points and is also good defensively.

Karlsson is destroying the competition offensively, but I don't think that will be enough either. Webber probably is the favourite.
The Karlsson case is hard though. When Green had those big years, most didn't think he'd win and he didn't, but he was close. If you look back, he only outscored the competition by a handful of points (7 in 2010). Karlsson will likely outscore the competition by close to 30pts (that is absolutely massive....especially with scoring lower these days). Green finished 21st overall in scoring in 2010, Karlsson currently sits in 6th.

Defensively, he has a better plus/minus than last year, but I don't know how much to read into that. Obviously, the voters didn't care last year.

I don't know about that. If Lidstrom was playing above and beyond everyone and didn't win, maybe we discuss conspiracy theory then.Lidstrom hasn't even been the best defenseman on our team, IMO, let alone the entire league. I don't know if he would win the Norris even if he was playing hockey ala lidstrom 2002, though. I feel like there are too many influential people who see Lids as inferior to Orr and have to justify that by not voting for his tying Norris trophy. It doesn't matter either way, though.
