I'm a Karen Newman fan, but I'd rather it be done organ style and the fans just sing a long.I love the way they do it in Tampa Bay--no anthem singer, just an organ with the words on the jumbo tron and everyone sings it.

I would think the players would appreciate if the anthems were sung at regular speed, so they can get the game started!

Completely classless with the "let me hear you" during O Canada. I don't have a problem with opera singers doing the anthems, as I've heard many of them perform them well and with the respect and dignity the songs deserve. I've also heard far too many "vocalists" from all genres turn the national anthems into exercises in musical masturbation.
This one's vibrato, however, was beyond obnoxious. If a soprano was to sing like that for any of the honors chorus auditions I've been involved with she wouldn't qualify for districts, let alone regions or all states. While being part of a chorus is different than being a soloist, vibrato wide enough to drive a semi truck through that detracts from the performance is never acceptable.

I cannot get this video to play but if your description is correct, I cannot stand slow vibratos. There is absolutely no excuse for hiring someone to sing like that. I've heard versions of the Messiah with "professional" soloists and if I didn't already know the thing by heart, I wouldn't know what the hell note they were trying to sing. Drives me batz.
"He even ate with women who at that time were accorded the same status as the family donkey. Are we willing to break bread with, say, child sex slaves, transgender teens and undocumented workers? Because when Jesus comes back to Earth, that's where he'll be hanging."
You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.
Money on the Board - 100 bucks on the base. From here on, one buck per puck IN goal, win or lose!
Total right now: $111.

I was laughing when I saw Crosby trying so hard not to burst out laughing. That was just painful
Yeah, it was funny watching most of the players try not to crack up. NHL.com thought it was funny enough to put a clip of it on their site "Sens and Pens get an earful of National Anthem." Karlsson is the funniest though you can tell he completely loses it.

Bingo. Vibrato is supposed to be a controlled effect to enhance long tones, not obscure them. At least she wasn't adding melismas on top of it. Nothing like ending a phrase that's written with a half note as the closing note and replacing it with thirty pitches, the vast majority of which fall out of the diatonic scale appropriate to the piece being performed (or even better, falling between semitones) and not once hitting the correct pitch during the whole run.
