He is injured.
This excuse is bulls***. If he was injured, he wouldn't be playing. Simple as.

Because nobody ever plays injured. It's been noted multiple times by Babcock that he is injured. Sure he's useless right now but you win with players like Cleary in your line up in the playoffs.

Cleary is a good third liner and they need his depth for some years before they let him go. He had 26 goals last year and had some sick goals this year and Nyquist needs to stay in the AHL for a year or 2 more for him to develop.
Nyquist is NHL ready....and he's got what? 3rd or 4th best point per game average on the team...ya, send him back to the minors and re-sign Homer and Emmerton. Holy s***balls, it's the Lolocaust in here! While we're at it, lets leave Tatar down next year too and re-sign Hudler for 4x the price...
Dan Cleary should be on the 4th line with Miller and Abdelkader.
There it is...This excuse is bulls***. If he was injured, he wouldn't be playing. Simple as.

Wings need some Ryan Pulock in the 1st round, a goal scorer in the 2nd round and rounds 3-7 all guys 6'4 or bigger. Please sign Dekeyser to play with Smith. <--Dekeyser signed, Paired next year. Mark your calendars.
Tootoo needs a partner in crime that plays like him on the other side of Helm. Oh hey, we have Mitchell Callahan. Problem solved.
Cleary....

I'm ready to sit him until the postseason. Give his ailments a little time to ease up, and maybe we can get a playoff round of good Cleary hockey outta him before his knee goes again.
I truely feel they have guys that can take his place right now so he can get better. Clears is clutch in playoffs and has a real deep tank and full of heart and a great playoff guy ( besides not everyone can play on one leg for the playoffs like Yzerman did) If Cleary was givin time to get healthy his game would improve. Until then ill take Mursak.

Your post would have been correct if we were talking about last year. This year Cleary has been s***. The only time you notice him is when he takes the puck across the blueline along the wall. Gets the slightest of rubs from the defender and then falls down. In the rare event that he does get past the defender he usually takes a shot from between the bottom of the circle to the end line. This shows why he has the worste shooting percentage of Wings forwards other than Mursak yet is third on the team in shots. Nyquist is NHL ready and his recent callup has proved that. Of the 8 games since his callup earlier this month Nyquist scored in every game but 2 while playing 5-6 minutes a night less than Cleary.
If Nyquist spends another two years in the AHL it will hinder his development. Hes already a top player in that league and you get better by playing tougher competition. You get complacent by playing below your skill level. Yes usually the Wings let there prospects overripe but Nyquist and Smith are the best two prospects since Datsyuk and Zetterberg (both who never touched the AHL). Im hoping Babs is giving these last couple games for Cleary to try and work himself out but Ill bet you come playoffs Nyquist has more a chance of being in than Cleary.

This. The Wings believe that they will need him in the playoffs and because of injuries he has to get up to NHL speed. It's better if he does that now as opposed to during the playoffs. That's all I can think of.

"has zberg lost his touch?" "hudler blows like always" "big E is a *****" "franzen floats" "scratch bertuzzi" "homer sucks" and now cleary????? GM's would chop their own hand off to have a guy who plays with as much heart as cleary does. Ill go on record all day sticking up for cleary....some ppl on this forum i swear dont watch or have ever played hockey in their lives....this is the wings boys and cleary is the s***. that is all.
You can have all the heart in the world but if your skill does not match that heart you dont win the Cup.

This would be the conversation if he was actually injured:
Babcock: "Cleary isn't doing anything for our team. If it's because he's injured, I think we should have him rest up and get healthy so he can be a good player for us."
Holland: "Ok"
.... later that day ....
Babcock: "Danny, your injury is seriously affecting your play so we're going to have to heal up so you can positively affect the team"
Cleary: "Ok"
Obviously that hasn't happened.
And Cleary used to work hard. He doesn't do s*** anymore.

never said anything about Zetters bucko.......we readin the same post lol?
seriously thou it angers me sometimes how much red wings fans complain about our own players when we make the playoffs and compete for the cup year in and year out....cleary is a fantastic hockey player and will be with this club for years to come so whining about him having a "down year" will do no one any good. i swear its like none of you watch him play....so what if his numbers are off this year...he brings GAME to the ice and the lockerroom everynight. hes not a numbers player anyway.

Cleary is signed through next season, so no chance of not offering a contract at the end of this year.Cleary is definetly not as effective as he used to be, he could be used as trade-bait during the draft or something or just not offered a contract at the end of this season. With all the new young prospects coming up they need to make room and Cleary would be an ideal player to move not sure what we could get for him in a trade but even a 6th or 7th round pick would be better than how he's played of late. This team has a lot of depth and if Eaves can come back from injury by at least next season, we'd still be plenty deep without Cleary. Plus I'm sure we'd find someone to replace him if we didn't offer him a contract and keep our depth. This is one of the reason's I'm actually a bit excited for this off-season, becasue I have high hopes and expectations that the Wings will have a roster shake-up in July whether it's a major shake-up or minor one.

That's right. Sad Simpsons Indian. I went there.
