What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

I hope so (just because we don't need any more 2nd/3rd liners.

But.

I doubt it.

Well, they don't need anymore players who are top six or bust. They have some skill but can't skate and aren't versatile enough to be significantly effective while on the bottom six. Homer and Huds are the main examples.

Personally I'll be disappointed if they don't pick up Parise, Suter, Weber, make a trade for Stamkos, send a hit squad of professional assassins after Crosby, & finally tell the world they've been working on cloning technology which leads to the debut of Gordie Howe 2.0 on Pavel's right wing staring next season.

Actually, the thing that would disappoint me is if Lids retires & Kenny announces they are going to follow the Pens & 'Hawks model of rebuilding the organization by sucking for a decade+ to stock up on #1 draft selections.

I trust the Wings brass. I don't question them much. I don't think it would take more than a player or two to make a big impact with this club, it would just have to be the right two guys. This is exactly why I'm very happy that Kenny is our GM and I'm just some guy on a couch.

We should be looking for a sniper (Zach Parise) and a 4th liner who will throw his body around, win faceoffs, and play important PK minutes (Gregory Campbell). Possibly a replacement for Lidstrom, if he retires. Put Emmerton on waivers with the intent of sending him to Grand Rapids. Trade Cleary and Kindl. Bring in a proven shut-down UFA as a 7th defenseman (Jim Vandermeer), and a UFA to replace Conklin.

Franzen-Datsyuk-Parise

Zetterberg-Filppula-Nyquist

Abdelkader-Helm-Bertuzzi

Miller-Campbell-Eaves

Mursak

Lidstrom/Suter-White

Kronwall-Quincey

Ericsson-B.Smith

Vandermeer

Howard

UFA

Of course this won't happen, though. We won't get Parise because the "asking price was too high, and too many other teams were after him driving up the price". Ken will bring in Sergei Samsonov and call that "grit". He'll keep Emmerton on the 4th line, and Kindl in over Smith, like he is now. Cleary will continue to take shots from behind the net and fall on his ass constantly in a Wings uniform next year.

I think Holland ends up snagging Semin for a decent cap hit. No Suter or Parise, but I think they end up with Weber when he becomes a UFA.

I'll say it for the 10th time on these boards, no thanks to Semin. People are already hard enough on Franzen, and Semin has a much worse work ethic and is more streaky than Franzen. He would quickly become an enemy of the common Detroit fan, I can just about guarantee that.

I'm not saying it's not a possibility, because unfortunately it may be, but it's one of the last moves i'd want to see this offseason. Let's hope Holland makes the right decision and stays far away from a Semin contract. He is NOT the player this team needs.

For some reason I do believe Weber retires on the Preds, I don't see him going anywhere anytime soon. We can dream though.

Unless Illitch is low on cash (totally possible) Parise is ours. Holland isnt adverse to offering huge contracts, look at Z and Mule. Those contracts arnt what youd call mediocre by any means.

Its tough to say what players are willing to accept as far as length but I hope if we sign a Parise or Suter its for 3-4 years. Its obvious that the guys that get a lifetime contract tend to save themselves to kepp the checks coming. Z and Franzen dont play with the fire they used to just like married couples tend not to impress each other the way they do when they start dating.

We better sign Parise so long as it doesnt cost more than 10mil/year at that point Holland better start BSing about the virtues of Detroit and sell the s*** out of the offer, anything less and Holland needs to go BYE BYE

Kenny usually has something up his sleeve. No one predicted White and Commodore last year and I think it may be some more off the radar guys we aquire...

Jim Slater (jets)....played for MSU....could be a good addition to the bottom 6

Rich Peverley (bruins)...always loved this guy and hes blossomed with boston this year....guy who can play in the top and bottom 6, but not as much off the radar and may cost some money

Chris Kelly (bruins)....strong young bottom 6 forward who did very well this year

Brad Boyes (sabres)....again not so much off the radar so he may cost money but he has a ton of defensive talent

Tim Jackman (flames)....for those who wants a big man who will fight in the bottom 6

Jason Garrison (panthers)....reliable D-man

Jarret Stoll (kings)....not to far off the radar but can play top and bottom 6....strong physical forward with some talent

Kyle Brodziak (wild)....love this guy....reliable forward who i think would do well here

Travis Moen (candiens)....for obvious reasons....not sure if the candiens extended him or not

Brandon Prust (rangers)...big grinding forward who loves to drop em

Filip Kuba (senators)....decently talented puck moving D-man

Matt Carle (flyers)....not off the radar to who anyone who knows hockey but a clutch D-man nonetheless

Torrey Mitchell (sharks)....young kid who could add some bottom 6 talent

Antero Niittymaki (sharks)....replacement for conks?

Jason Chimera (capitals).....another big bottom 6 grinder

not a lot of good d-men out there besides suter.....if we dont get him and lids leaves....*gulp*

EDIT: my bad if any of these guys have already been extended

no cap days are over, dude.

No cap but why are the Penguins allowed to have Crybaby, Manikan, Neal, Stall, Dupis, Kuniz for starters? I guess Gary Buttman only allows his fav team to have scoring depth?

Well PHX is up 2-0 right now.

Sankar is one of the worst "fans" to walk the earth.

I call persistant troll on him

So I am the worst fan for wanting a Cup?

Glad I,m not the only one that views the Pens this way.....Bettman was kissing Marios @ss when he played and still is as an owner...

I hope the Flyers kick the $hit outta the Pens.............probally won,t happen due to Pitt getting pp,s out the ying yang.

I am changing this team. I know they made the playoffs, showed a little heart, they almost made my 6th place prediction come true, so I am not happy with this team at all. They backed into the playoffs and pretty much have lost it's identity this season. I realize it was probably an expensive asking price on Trade Day, so I won't hold Holland too accoutable and noone can predict the injuries, but some of the players that were relied upon to step up, failed. This is all hypothetical and what I would want to see done. Prolly won't happen, even though it is affordable, but hey, I can want...

Lidstrom retires, Holmstrom retires, Stuart leaves. I am not re-signing Hudler and I am trading Mursak, Franzen, Cleary, Kindl and Emmerton. I will send Franzen + off to Dallas (he can star with Eriksson for the next 10 years) for Brenden Morrow then re-sign him for a longer deal, then acquire whatever I can draft pick wise for the rest. I am re-signing Abdelkader, Helm and Qunicey to discounted but longer term deals. I am then signing Suter for $6.5M long term, Parise $6.7M long term and Semin $5.0M long term. When I say long term I mean at least 5 yrs. I am promoting Smith and Nyquist full time, also Tatar/Sheehan will be up & down here for the 13th forward to rotate in and out. I am not sure on a 7th Defenseman, but I am sure a serviceable one will present itself.

For GRR I am signing Dekeyser for the D and I wanted to sign Jeremy Welsh but he was already plucked by Carolina...another miss for Holland.

Anyhow, here is my 2012-2013 roster:

FORWARDS

Zach Parise ($6.700m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Alexander Semin ($5.000m)

Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg © ($6.083m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m)

Brenden Morrow ($4.100m) / Darren Helm (@) ($1.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)

Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.866m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m)

Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) /

DEFENSEMEN

Niklas Kronwall (@) ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($6.500m)

Ian White ($2.875m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.000m)

Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m)

GOALTENDERS

Jimmy Howard ($2.250m)

Joey MacDonald ($0.550m)

This actually leaves $973,000 available under the CURRENT Cap. Of course if the Cap drops (which I doubt considering the revenue the NHL is bringing in) then some numbers could be tweaked, but this roster is sitting pretty good as it stands...

You may like it or not, and I am sure you will tell me about it, but this team beats the current team hands down all season long AND in a series.

Worth considering: Z and Mule were "in-house," so to speak. That is, they were already with us - and, of course, managing the "family system" is what Ken Holland's all about.

I think a better recent precedent for Parise is Hossa, maybe.

I second that as I know the Wings won't win the Cup and my only hope for the playoffs is someone to knock off the Penguins and also don't want the Canucks to win as well.

Just addressing the forwards for now:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Nyquist

Parise-Filppula-Franzen

Tatar-Helm-Bertuzzi

Miller-Abdelkader-Eaves

I just think overall Hudler had a great season but he's not nearly as scary to have in the top 6 unless he's paired with someone amazing (Z). I think as far as longevity goes it makes sense to have Z and Dats back together as they get older so that they don't both take the wear and tear of being a two way center on separate lines. They can just carry the load on one line and Fil has really shown he can hold the puck and play very well defensively so I give him second line center responsibility. Nyquist should be up full time next season and hopefully he can get stronger in the offseason. The best part of the lineup is the solid ass 4th line. Miller-Abby-Eaves is a great line that will put up points and be responsible out there. I also removed Cleary from the lineup in favour of Tatar.... I think cleary is really on a decline and will continue having issues with his knees for time to come. Might as well shed some salary to spend on the back end rather than hold onto him for sentimental purposes (I really love the guy but seriously we can do better for less money). Homer is kinda like Hudler in the sense that he is pretty ineffective on his own out there and needs a supporting cast to be effective. Its really hard to fit guys like that into a lineup as we are now seeing with our current "spare parts" fourth line. I just think its time for him to hang them up with all do respect. It just sucks trying to form line combos and just knowing that Hudler HAS to be in the top 6 to be effective and play with Z and Homer on any bottom 6 line is an anchor with little speed left in the legs - its nice to have guys you can move up and down the lineup without too much thought (kinda like cleary before his injury issues).
