FWIW, Pav said the same thing in one of his interviews with the Russian writer who works for Puck Daddy. On some level it does make sense since they're such good friends and they've played together for so long.

I'd actually be curious to see how many goals they've combined for where Lidstrom was the primary assist maker. Chances are that goal was probably Lidstrom shooting the puck intentionally wide so that Homer could stick his **** out to deflect it. Yeah I said it.

Holmstrom should be gone. We need 3 additional impact players to make a difference and bringing back players that are old and busted is not worth the money we pay to watch this team play. Lidstrom is the only UFA player I would bring back and it should be a discounted price since he is 42 years old and much more prone to injury.
The wings are loyal and I can appreciate that but there has to be a time where you have to let guys go. It's like having a new car that is great when you first get it and gives you years of service but if it keeps breaking down then it's time for a new car.

Holmstrom is like an old car that you love even though it leaks oil and starts only half the time.

Ill be disappointed if Homer is back to be honest. Id rather take the younger guy with more grit and speed then just have a very slow 4th line pp specialist.

I'll go with a less common suggestion: we need a big, strong shut-down centre who has elite face-off numbers. Helm's almost that guy but he's pretty small.

Kind of like a certain player Nashville obtained at the deadline? ;)

What a coincidence, Konopka is a UFA this summer.

What a coincidence, Gaustad is also a UFA this summer.

I would be ecstatic if we were able to obtain either of these two guys for our fourth line. I've wanted Konopka for a couple of years now.

Imma let you finish, and your cap numbers are all good and all that, but imma let Kenny figure it out. Kenny's cap numbers were the best cap numbers this year.

I think the first litmus test is whether Lidstrom comes back or not. Whether he does or not says a lot about Holland's vision and plan for next year. If Lids feel inspired to come back for one more ... we can all have faith. But if after hearing from Kenny, even Lids doesn't believe in it and retires then we're likely to see a few years of drought coming. Lidstrom's decision is the first litmus test.

Gaustad would be great but heís a flavour of the week type guy. Personally, I want signings that arenít so obvious. I always find it cool when they go off the grid (Although Iíd make an exception with Parise).

What the hell ever happened to the days of Holland bringing in hungry, unproven guys like Samuelson, Lilja, and Cleary? Did Kenny just get lucky?

I see your logic. Lidstrom has already said that he feels he can play another season, and that itís more of a question of weather or not the drive a motivation to excel is there. Kenny needs to excite the man.

Gaustad is going to price himself out of our market, IF, he doesn't re-sign with Nashville. Remember, they gave up a lot to get him, chances are they try to keep him. Only exception would be if they win The Cup, and then he may become more expendable. But that would just raise his price that much more. I would think that we could sign Moen, Gregory Campbell, and Konopka for roughly the same price as we could get Gaustad. Those three in our bottom six would definitely make us a tougher team to play against. Of course, that's assuming that they make it to July 1st.

I don't think that fixes our sniper problem, but $3-4 million spent on support players, could really help pick up a team that seems to lose it's focus easily. Plus I'm sick of seeing us get run over, and nobody stands up for the team.

According to Jimmy D, Holland's off-season plan will be as follows:

1. Get bigger and tougher to play against
2. Add a scorer
3. Add a defensemen
4. Upgrade the back-up goalie position

http://www.mlive.com...t_bigger_a.html

"Certainly we'd like to get a bit bigger and a little tougher. We'd like to get a little bigger size-wise and a little tougher. We really prefer tougher players who can play the game, not just somebody who can play two-three minutes and fight.

Encouraging read. You've got to feel like there will be intense pressure from the top down for Holland to work his balls off this summer.

I'm in a real pessimistic mood today :P

I get the feeling the bold above will be a common phrase used by Holland this summer/fall - especially when ya consider there's no idea where the cap (if there is a hard cap) will be as of the 15th of September.

You never know. With the way he and the Bruins struggled in the 1st round, they might be willing to make changes.

With Jimmy D's comments though, I fully expect to see a couple Travis Moen/Gregory Campbell types signed. Guys that can scrap, PK and pot a few goals.

I always thought this guy was awesome. I don't know what it would take to get boson to give him up though. I think he is exactly the kind of player the Wings need right now.

Sounds promising but seriously, how many times have we heard "get bigger and tougher" only to see half-assed attempts at it like bringing in Brad May's little ass or bringing Abby up from the minors. I'll be excited when I see something more than lip service from the Wings brass.

Problem with this is that you're assuming Parise takes a million dollars less per year just to come here. I don't see that happening. And I think were Parise goes, Suter goes. That's the ***** of it; and we know Kenny Holland won't pony up the dough that other teams will.
