WCQF Game 1 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Predators 3

I actually think we played pretty well for the last two periods. We carried the play and got a lot of scoring opportunities. They got some lucky bounces. Thats just the way it goes sometimes. I guarantee if we play like that again, we will win more times than not.

Pretty much this, not impressed with the overall effort from Detroit but considering that 2 of 3 Preds goals were a fluke doesn't worry me much about the opposition, pick up the play, star players need to show they are star players and the Wings win this series.

....of course if he is suspended it will be harder to go after him.

i c wat u did there

but i meant right after it happened

Weber won't get suspended and the Wings won't do anything about it, because Babcock and Holland instruct their team not to fight and make sure we don't have the personnel for it in case some dickhead rams our star player's head into the boards.

Sick of everything.

And so much for us making a push for Weber next season.

You sound upset, sir.

So exhausted trying to explain/give excuses why the Wings can't just freakin win. Can we get a 2011 Game 4 vs San Jose effort on Friday night....PLEASE?

I guess the fact that the teams put forth equal efforts tonight is inadequate to you. Believe it or not, a loss does not mean that the team completely sucked. Sometimes a team plays a good game but doesn't get the bounces.

Crymson might be the most rational person on this board.

And if a hockey message board wanted to have any credibility it would discipline any poster(s) calling for players to purposely injure other players.

Because a player might be reading the message board and decide to go out and do it?

Personally I think it's a little ridiculous for people to be calling for other players to injure one another. In the heat of the moment as upset fans I think we forget they're just guys playing a game, not the devil. But it's not technically against forum rules so there's no reason to suspend posters for it.

Can missing bumbling up an empty net on a 2 on 1 be blamed on his knee?

It was a tough pass. Catching it and converting on a pass like that is what separates a true goal scorer with a 2nd and 3rd liner like Cleary.

Weber should be out for the next game.

And I won't give the Preds credit tonight Strader, they got two flukey goals. That, to me, was the only difference in the game.

I just watched the recorded game and you're right. Two of the goals they got were lucky deflections. We can beat their asses. I KNOW we can. We outplayed them most of the game and they did indeed get lucky bounces. And I also agree about Weber. And the ref was right there, and there's a clear shot of him, slamming his head against the glass. I cannot believe there won't be some action. And of course if it happens, the baby-poop colored fans will say Shanahan was just favoring the Wings. BULLs***.

"good try boys?????" are you serious??? just check the pens Flyers game that's a GOOD ******* try, wings sucked the entire game and please bring Branstrom back take this little f*** emerton out.

You clearly didn't watch the game so I would recommend that you look at the shot totals and maybe read some game stories.

I agree that emerton is not NHL ready, but they should call someone else up not brunnstrom

Also I'm happy that cleary is in playoff mode already. I didnt much like his regular season mode (I don't think anyone did)

Do the right thing, Shanny.

I'd love to think Shanny has the last word but I don't think it's true. Bobblehead Bettman is ultimately in control.

Finally some damn positivity. Losing game one is completely expendable. The Wings simply had a bad 1st period but picked things up after that. We'll see how many games that ****** Weber gets and the Wings will take advantage. Winning game 2 could turn around the entire series.

I saw a good effort tonight. I saw two Nashville goals that got the lucky bounce and went in. Good for them, bad for us. But they were quirky goals. Great when they happen but you can't pay the mortgage with them. The Wings held their top guys in check. The Wings scored two powerplay goals from frontline PP guys. Play a little smarter on the walls and watch those passes back behind the net, clean up the lazy penalties and I'd say the Wings have a great shot at game 2.

It's not a series until you lose your first home game.

Does anyone know, are the Predator fans chanting "It's all your fault, it's all your fault" at Howard at some point after a goal? I used to do that at University of Michigan games in the late 80's when Denny Felsner and Aaron Ward were cutting their teeth. Cripes, get an original cheer Nashvillle.

Wings didn't play to their potential but also they weren't awful. Howard had a solid game he was just unlucky as was Detroit in general in that game.

Few things:

Don't need Emmerton on the ice ever again, Nyquist needs to be in the lineup.

Ericsson or Quincey out for Smith. Don't care which one really.

Oh and the Shea Weber situation, I hope he is not suspended so the Wings have some motivation.

WINGS IN 6... Count it

 Not sure what you've been watching but Ericsson was one of the best players on the ice tonight, especially defensively speaking. And he's been progressively getting better with each game.

I want Bertuzzi to paralyze that motherf***er Weber. :ranting:

And I want his kids sitting in the front row to see it.

Disgusting. I don't know what pisses me off more; the fact you apparently think this is acceptable, or the fact that other people +1'd the post. Lose with some class and dignity. We're supposed to be better than that garbage.

No wonder I don't post in the GDTs much anymore.

Can someone give me an explanation as to why Datsyuk keeps taking the faceoffs when he's clearly not 100% out there? That kind of killed us out there. Well I really felt we could've won that game and the positive here is Nashville needed an enormous amount of luck just to come away with a win at home in Game 1. I loved the PK and at times we cycled the puck real well when 5 on 5. Gotta fix this powerplay though. Just not enough high percentage shots.

My notes on the game:

- Ice seemed to be in very rough shape. Tons of bouncing pucks for both teams.

- Officiating on both sides was "suspect" at best. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt seeing as how they probably felt like they were under a microscope because Bobblehead was in the stands. However, 17 mins in penalties = over half a freaking game! Completely unacceptable.

- The PP, while markedly improved in some aspects, still needs work past the PP1 line. Floating/shooting on the perimeter against this team will NOT work. Blocked shot count was 16-10 Nashville.

- The PK. Wow.

- Stuart was a horrorshow. The guy looks like he's on a plane out West already.

- Gus and Conner should be inserted in place of Helm and Emmerton.

- The ENTIRE first line needs to show up. Wasn't impressed with any of Pav/Mule/Bert's game last night. In classic playoff fashion, the top lines seemed to cancel out and the bottom 6 dictated the outcome. If that's the case, losing Helm got that much more painful.

All that being said, I still think the Wings will take the next one on Friday. A couple of fortunate bounces went Nashville's way and the Wings looked like the better team for most of the game. There's no way the officiating is as poor as it was last night, and if there are much fewer stops in play, the Wings can get rolling and take it to this team.

I still remain very much confident in this team for this match up and more so after this loss. My opinion is that last night's game could have easily went the other way around. Firstly, the officiating was horrendous on both sides; so bad that it didn't even feel anything like a playoff game. The Wings played a good game in the 2nd and the 3rd, but it's hard to judge their play in the first because it felt like they were on the PK for most of it. Their PK was great.

Overall, I think the Wings played a type of game that would normally result in a win, if it wasn't for some lucky bounces for the Preds, not only 2 of 3 goals, but on the defensive side as well. Hank for example, could have had a hat trick if it wasn't for a few lucky defensive bounces for the Preds. Rinne is an elite goalie and made some amazing stops, but as did Howard.

The Webber slamming of Hanks head into the boards at the end there, I think pisses the Wings off and they will show it in game 2 and further. They may not retaliate with the taking of player's heads like some people are calling for, but I think it will show in their overall game. I don't expect a suspension coming from it, but thats not to say that it wouldn't normally warrant one.

With that said, I just don't see a team like the Predators getting so many lucky bounces on both ends of the ice. Its going to come down to who the better team is and I strongly feel the Wings will come out on top.

From someone who hates Ericsson, I agree. I was praising him all night last night. Quincey looked lost though, he was driving me insane.
