Yikes. When are they going to start taking precautions to prevent this type of injury with some extra paddin/equipment. We've seen alot of it recently. Shame for Helm, and the Wings. He's a key part of this team IMO.

This sucks! I really hope his recovery goes well and he's all set to go in the fall. Until then, the Wings need to use this as motivation to win for him, he worked hard to get back for his team.

though I don't know if that is made to be worn on the skin. I have to say though, as someone who plays hockey, it sounds like he just wasn't meant to play. That had to get him just right to cut him up there by Cleary's description. Also I can't imagine how hot you would be covered head to toe in that kind of protection. Its hot enough with the usual set of protection.
