In the end, there's just no scoring depth. Miller and Eaves can score, but Eaves is out and Miller is playing on a line centered by Abdelkader. Abdelkader is effective as a winger but ineffective as a center. Nyquist is not yet big enough or experienced enough to make an impact. Holmstrom and Emmerton are generally ineffective; neither can really check or score. It's a shame that Helm is out, but really he's had the quality of a 4th-line center this season; he's not an effective scorer. And so on.
Rinne has been excellent, as has the defense for the Predators. The big guns for the Wings have been inexplicably silent. This may be the combination of the aforementioned factors. Tough to say.
This highlights it for me. If theres no scoring depth from these lines they have to offer something else (checking, grinding, softening up the other teams D, fighting, etc.) The wings depth has for a while done nothing well. The need an identity and it needs to happen over the offseason, Holmstrom, Emmerton, Eaves can develop into these heavy hitting, grinders. I really hope there is a drastic overhaul in the near future. Leave the third line for checking/scoring and the fourth line for Hitting, FIghting, and wearing out the other team. Lately our third and fourth lines have been half ass lines that offer nothing.
