The players play and the coaches coach, but someone has to put all those pieces into place.

That person is the general manager, and three stood out from the rest of their peers this season. Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues, David Poile of the Nashville Predators and Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers have been named the finalists for the 2012 General Manager of the Year Award.

The winner will be announced at the 2012 NHL Awards Show, June 20 at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.

I've got to be honest, Im surprised Holmgren didn't get nominated. Not that I'm trying to take anything away from the 3 actual nominees

Absolutely. It took a lot of stones to make the Richards and Carter trades, then signing Bryz to a big contract and stealing Jagr and Talbot from the Pens. He really should at least be nominated for this.

I'm with you.

I'd rank em:

1. Poile
2. Holmgren
3. Tallon

Edit: Although Poile did trade Franson and Lombardi for Lebda and Slaney.

Pretty much agree with the list, it would of been nice for Holmgren to be nominated
