You missed the point.

Nick's gotten old, and he's not getting any younger. As one gets older, one becomes more prone and/or susceptible to injury. There's wear and tear, a certain degree of deterioration. Even something as simple as a deep bone bruise can prove more problematic when you're "old." Blah blah blah.

But that doesn't make any sense. Being in one's 40s--especially when you're in world-class shape like Nick is--does not increase susceptibility to a bone bruise, nor will being of that age--again, especially when you're in such great shape is Nick is--affect the degree to which it heals.

Yes, it probably does.

With aging comes a decrease in your max heart rate and heart output, your lung capacity, muscle mass, flexibility, testosterone. Those are known issues. Your body just doesn't recover as well as it used to, whether it's recover time from a workout or from injury.

Genetics and staying fit can certainly lessen the impact of aging, but can't erase them. The reality is that Lidstrom at 25 is going to recover much faster than an injury than he does at 41.

And in general he is more prone to injury now that he's older.

Hank is going to be our next captain. That was practically carved into stone when he signed that contract. I think on paper, Pavs is better than Hank, but the captain also needs to be someone who can address the media and talk to refs/linesman, and that's not Pavs' area of expertise. That's not a knock against the guy, just that everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

Being able to talk to the media should have no bearing on who is captain. The captain should be whoever your best leader is.

But talking to refs and the media is part of the job.

Pavs is great at talking to the media. Being understood isn't always his forte but when he gets his point across there's usually enough cleverness to make everyone love him.

Balanced is probably what I am, although that's just a polite way to say that you don't do anything very well.

You guys are really late to the party with the Ericsson bashing.

He was good all season and one of our best D-men in the playoffs.

Good point about Shanny getting the A his first game. If giving the A to a stud winger coming to the Wings can lead to back to back Cups like it did with Shanny, then by all means sign Parise and hook him up with an A. ;)

In all seriousness, Hank gets the C, A's to Pav and Kron and Parise if signed. However, I'm not fully convinced that Lids is done just yet so this whole thread will hopefully be moot.

It's pronounced "Zim" not "Exim". Aw heck with it, just call me Scott.
