He's also trying to help out the Canucks by making it seem, to the rest of the leauge, that the trade is happening because of his wants (not the team's) and that will help to not diminish his value on the market. I feel bad for any team who picks up that contract but at the same time he would do wonders for a team that has playoff aspirations (as opposed to Stanley Cup aspirations) like Tampa Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Moving Luongo gives them 5.3M in cap space (not including any rise or fall in salary cap for next year), but at the same time, Schneider is due for a raise, and I imagine he'll be getting a bit more than his current 900k salary. Granted he is good and has been stellar at times but he hasn't lived up to all the hype I've heard about him. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 26, 2012 Luongo was playing well this postseason and still got the hook from his coach. That's a pretty clear message. I'm not surprised he asked for the trade. He's a good but not great goalie with an awful contract. Vancouver fans over on hfboards always yell "It's a great cap hit!" Luo said he would be willing to waive his NTC IFFFFFFFFF the organization had asked him to do so. There was no requesting a trade, nor is there one in place. This is simply speculation and simply Luo saying "if the organization feels they would be better without me, i'm willing to be moved." He's not demanding, or requesting to be traded. Good save percentage and all, but has the tendency to let in real stinkers and seems to get rattled kind of easily. Granted, he was in Vancouver, but does his play really warrant the absurd contract? Is anyone going to want to take the biggest goaltending contract in the league for a guy who wasn't even deemed the best goaltender on his team? xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted April 26, 2012 This situation feels kind of similar to the one back in '95 when Patrick Roy wanted out of Montreal. His play was going downhill, the fans were on his back all the time, it was suggested that Roy was past his prime and he was only going to get worse as time went on. Then Roy got traded to another contender and he was a monster again. Obviously the situation is a little different with the big contract and salary cap, but I would see Luongo going somewhere else and being a beast again.
