As usual Torts gives the media nothing!

esteef

it was kinda funny first time, but I seriously think league will suspend the guy for this some day. they put a lot of effort to promote the game and gain media momentum and Tortorella is ruining it all.

DAMMIT RANGERS, DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT. Do NOT screw around and ruin this for me. You must win ONE more game. ONE.

I just bought SECOND ROW SEATS at the Prudential Center for the Devils first home game of round 3. I spent allowance money dammit! It better be game 3 vs NYR and NOT Game 1 vs Washington. I mean, Washington, WHO CARES?!?!?!?!

I WANT this!!!!

Well if the media didn't keep trying to get answers out of Torts that they want, so they can spin it on him, he would probably respect them back. Listen, the media tries to DESTROY and skew the words of Torts, they set him up for failure. They ask rhetorical stupid questions, so he answers with smart ass answers. I would be the same way if they kept doing it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER, And.... over. Hey John, why did you call that icing? Oh, i'm not sure, maybe because my guys were frickin tired and I didn't want to get destroyed in my zone. OH? So thats how you coach. Come on man, don't act like Torts is the bad guy all the time. You would eventually get fed up with it too.

Agreed.

It's entertaining to watch him throw tantrums like a five year old, but the reality is that interacting with the media is part of his job, and a necessary one to help promote the game. If he doesn't like it, maybe he should coach some kids league where he wont' have to talk to any reporters. I'm not sure it pays as well though...

Torts is honest I admire that and respect that. HE is the only coach who is not afraid to speak out. There are MANY times during the year where I feel the officials make extremely bad calls against the Wings that play a huge part in a loss and Babcock says nothing. I would rather a coach not be afraid to speak his mind and let everyone know what happened. Way to go Torts.

He just simply refuses to discuss individual player performances with the media. No soup for you!

esteef

I don't see why thats a bad thing. It is a team game, why would the head coach want to single an individual player out in a post-game presser to the public. Everyone wants to be up in arms because of his post-games right now and call him classless but you want him to put one of his players on blast infront of the public? If its one thing Torts absolutely kicks ass at, its sticking up for his players. He'll be blunt, damn well straight up say the performance was "the suck", but he wouldn't single out a players performance. He'll go tell you to talk to that player. Which Babcock will do the same thing in his pressers.

that's what media is and always was about. 29+ coaches in this league (and other major leagues as well) understand it and get over with dumb questions.

in nowadays economies you need media to sell your product. especially when the product is media based. and it's actually this intermediary (streaming, reporting) who holds the power in relation with content producer (league). period.

Come on man, don't act like Torts is the bad guy all the time. You would eventually get fed up with it too.

I don't. I was OK with him until recently, but just think he is pushing this too far now. for whatever reason.

what I'm referring to is his

1. his total disdain to media people which is more than obvious the moment he enters the press room

2. it's done over and over again.

3. "I'm not going to answer question about single players" + "I'm not going to answer you questions about strategy" + "I'm not going into discussion of refs calls" = what exactly is Torts then going to answer? questions about his favorite apple pies? this is a god* press conference for media going to report about the game. Tortorella is simply not answering any hockey related questions.

I'm OK with sending a statement to media to get real and stop asking same things over and over again. I understand that he doesn't want to single out players etc. but the way this guy behaves is more like "f* off, I'm not going to answer you anything". and he keeps doing it. and this is sure as hell against league policy to work with the media for one. and most certainly simply not fair for those people who just want to write a note or article in their paper to generate interest in NHL hockey.

Guest Hatethedrake!

The thing with Torts is that his act gets old very quickly. He is always pissed off and for no reason at all. Sure, he is an excellent head coach. One of the best in the league. But ever since he came into the NHL he has always looked for excuses to be pissed off even when being asked the most simplest of questions. It's one thing to stick up for yourself and not be bullied by the media. I don't mind when he gets pissed off when being asked a dumb question. But this guy just acts like a big baby most of the time. IMO I think he is bi-polar. All the signs are there. Maybe he thinks he has to be this way to be successful, I don't know. It seems to work for him I suppose. I would think it has to be very tiring to be pissed off all the time 24 hours a day though. He will likely burn out within the next 5 years. He should try and seek professional help for his anger problem. But he could care less what I or anyone else thinks.

Babcock basically does the same thing as Torts except with tact. He dismisses dumb questions, gives rhetorical answers, and will cut interviews short. Should we get him castrated now? Do we get old of his act? I understand how some people can be upset with how he acts, but welcome to Torts. He's always been that way and anyone should know what kind of response they're going to get out of him. He's an emotional person who doesn't like to see his team fold on him. Especially in the playoffs when all matters.

*edit* and no, i'm not the one neg'ing you.

This should be a great game. I'm pulling for NYR. I want to see a NYR vs. LA finals. Anyone else?

I think this would be the most beneficial to the league with the remaining teams. Both huge cities that would bring celebrities to the games and media attention to them, which exposes the league more. At the same time, both of these teams play a defensively sound game and there most likely wouldn't be too many chances, on top of two stacked goalies. This could lead to horrible exposure and give people the wrong impression of the game of hockey, as they would most likely find it boring. It's a double edged sword really.

yep, I have to agree. but I think it's this tact and attitude that make main difference. plus more respect to media people. and that it's not every time he hits a presser.

I always liked Tortorella rants and once in a while a good shot against dumb reporter. but it's just too much and too rude now.
