In another example of life coming full circle, it seems like a former Red Wings is going back to where it all began. Back in 1990, after the Wings drafted Sergei Fedorov, the young Russian had to defect from his Soviet Union team while it was in the United States for an exhibition tour. Fedorov disappeared from the team after a game in Seattle. A month or so later, he was in Wings camp.

Well, Fedorov went on to have a Hall of Fame career, which included a Hart Trophy and three Stanley Cups. Now, at 42, Fedorov is reportedly going back to Russia to become the general manager of the CSKA Red Army team, the same squad he ditched 22 years ago.

According to Yahoo!Sports, Fedorov met with team officials on Friday.

A source inside the team told a Russian newspaper: "It's a great possibility that CSKA's first home game of the new season will be Sergei's farewell. It will be sort of a farewell celebration and he will concentrate on the management work at the club." Yahoo!Sports also wrote that Fedorov, who played last season in the KHL, has yet to announce his retirement from playing.

Hope he becomes GM and ditches them again to come here and teach our players few things.. dry.gif

I think that is really awesome. Fedorov was a great player and now he is taking the next step in his career. I really would like to see him back in Detroit working for the Wings in some capacity.
