I was thinking that a new arena is right around the corner, and one day the Joe Louis will be but a memory.
Then I was thinking that there is at least one thing that I hope goes with us to the new arena.
Mine is the goal horn. I love it. It give me chills everytime I hear it. I have an mp3 of it. I pray to the hockey gods that they keep the same goal horn.
What else do you love about the Joe that you hope they carry over to the new arena. I bet no one will say the men's urinals!

I do like the horn too! But they also need to stop all the personal goal scoring music AND the music that "means something" like the Billy Joel 1..2..3..4, I cannot stand it personally. Just blast the f'ing horn and play a song like maybe go back to EMF's Unbelievable or Gary Glitter's Rock N' Roll Part 2. I have always wished for Welcome to the Jungle when the starting lineups skate out on the ice too. Or someting by Ministry, like NWO or Just On Fix or Jesus Built My HotRod...That would get the NEW place rockin!

No on EMF because it's not 1990 and the song sucked back then too & no on Gary Glitter because it's not 1972 & personally, I think it would be a good thing to keep all association with kiddie porn out of the new arena. I say keep the personalized goal songs for players but just update them a bit. I've always been disappointed they never busted out Tool's song 'Hooker with a Penis' as Hudler's goal song.

My favorite thing about the Joe is that it's not named after some s***ty corporation. I know the new one will be, but I really loved the fact that the Joe was named after something relevant to Detroit's sporting history.

What on Earth could you possibly have against Budd Lynch? The guy has been a Wing for 63 years, is in the Hall of Fame, and loves hockey more than probably everyone on this board, combined. The guy is an absolute legend, and familiar voice to those who have been Wings fans for years. Besides, he's just the PA announcer, it's not like Erich Freiny is going to make any difference.
But don't worry, at 94, he'll probably be gone before a new stadium is built anyway.

Lynch's voice is a staple ....just like hearing Journey and screaming South Detroit at the right time when at the game.
Hearing "last minute of play in the period" during the playoffs and Wings winning is the cat's meow.(Granted we didn't hear it enough this year...lol)
I hope they record that and play it as it would keep the bridge between the 1950's teams to today's Wings. Once again tradition reigns supreme in Hockeytown

I have a few things I would like to see carry over, but I agree with you here. I love the fact its not named after some fortune 500 company or some bulls***. I think naming an arena should be dedicated to someone or something that has meaning to the city or team or what not.
