It's rather cheeky to use "I'm realistic" in a discussion of this sort. Your perception of what is realistic and what is not is subjective and may be different from that of others. It is not an absolute.

Parise's 69 points is an absurd stat because it doesn't take into consideration quality of line mates, quality of competition, offensive vs. defensive zone starts, how much they play etc. It's a s*** stat.
Goals per minute played is a more informative stat than goals on it own. Parise scored as many goals as he did in part because of the ice-time he got; more than any Wings forwards and a lot more than Franzen or Hudler. If Franzen and Hudler played as much they would score more than they did
Unlike Hudler, Parise always played with NJ's best
I brought up the stat because people here knock Franzen for consistency and frequency of scoring goals and talk like Parise is going to be some messiah. he scores goals less frequently than Franzen or Hudler, he is another small finesse forward like we have so many of on our team and in the system and he is probably going to be way over payed.

In seasons where his ice time is comparable to what Franzen usually gets, the differentials in their production are actually MORE in Parise's favor. Presumably because when you're a veteran, the captain of the team, and it's best player, you actually have to play defense too so you're on the ice in defensive situations.

2. People knock Franzen because he doesn't work very hard, not because he doesn't score enough. If we knocked Franzen for not scoring enough then we'd have to knock everyone else for the same thing, because he's the leading goal scorer on the team.

3. Good luck in your future endeavors, please let me know once you've figured out how to successfully turn lead into gold.

In Franzen's most productive season he averaged 18:06 in ice time and scored 59 pts. In Zach Parise's most productive season he averaged 18:46 and scored 94 pts. Surely you're not suggesting that Franzen would have scored 35 more points that season if he'd had 40 more seconds of ice time per game.

Back to Hudler. I would rather have a guy for about 1-2mil/season that can punch people in the face and fight them for punching them in the face, score maybe 8 goals a year, knock others of the puck and punch them in the face again, than have Hudler for 3-4mil/year or whatever stupid money he is asking for to score 20+ useless goals per season. That does not sound like Red Wings style of hockey, however every time Wings won the cup in recent years have had a guy to punch people in the face, crash them into boards and fight them for doing all that to them. Hudler may go to a team that needs him to score useless goals.
I will continue to say NO to Hudler no mether what the situation is. Wings can score lots of goals without this guy.

I still don't understand why a team desperately in need of goal scorers would let Hudler walk for any other reason than salary. Obviously there's a limit to what he should make, but all of you eager to just dump him no matter what are missing the big picture. Whether he's small or not, he scores goals. You want a guy like that on your third or second lines. If we can keep him AND sign all the players we NEED, then it's a no brainer. But that doesn't mean we should get in a bidding war on the open market for him.

I wonder if some of you are the same people calling for Semin to come here. The reality is, if you can afford it, Hudler's 25 goals are 25 goals, regardless of his style of play. Our trouble is that we were relying on Franzen and Hudler too much. If they can be put in a secondary goal scoring capacity with the signing of a bona-fide goal scorer we'd have some of the best offense in the league.

Parenteau is the kind of player who will cash in as a UFA and likely sign a 4 or 5 year deal and then stink like Veille Leino did last season. Kenny should not sign him. To me he is not what we need. We need 2 top 6 forwards (like Parise and Semin) so we can roll 4 lines and scare the crap out of our opponents with our insane depth. Parenteau played alot of minutes on a bad team on the Island. If he came to Detroit he would sink into Ray Whitney oblivion. Whitney has had an excellent career however I recall how his lack of minutes made him largely ineffective on a deep Red Wings team.

well signing parise and semin would be amazing. but damn near impossible. let's be realistic, we'd be lucky to get one of them. but like i said, i don't know too much about him other than that he had (i think) 67ish points last year for the islanders. maybe he would sign for only a few mill for a couple years, replace hudler who we've all grown to know and love dearly, and possibly put up more points playing alongside any combination of our top 6 on the second line. not saying I was him but he could be an option. idk.

That's just kind of a newbie statement. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't get the sense any Wings forum has grown to love Hudler, which I take as an indication that Wings fans in general as a collective haven't really grown to love Hudler. He has his share of stubborn fans for sure but I don't think the majority of Wings fans would miss him too much if he left.
