Visiting the Joe for the first time

Not sure if this is the best place for this topic, but I'll put it here anyway. Me and my buddy are driving across the States on our way to Toronto from Vancouver in a couple weeks. I've always wanted to see the Joe so we're going to stop by Detroit on the way. We're planning on staying there a night or two. Does anybody have any suggestions on what area to stay, on hotels and also some other attractions to check out? It would be good if the hotels not too pricey, but any advice helps. Thanks in advance.

Well, as far as hotels go that is tricky since I don't know if you are looking to just pull up somewhere and stay the night or if you are looking to make reservations. The nicest one near JLA is the Marriott at the Ren Cen. The Westin in Southfield is supposed to be nice too.

You have to hit the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. That place is built for road trips. It is the ultimate "American experience."

if youre looking to party, the best area to do that is in greektown. if thats the case staying at greektown casino is a good spot. nice rooms and fairly cheap. bars, strip clubs, casino, late night food all on one block.

catch a tiger game too if you can, you can get tickets for cheap and sit anywhere you want (especially on the weekdays which can be slow). hit up hockeytown cafe across the street for your pregame, lots of cool history for all teams there.

And you have to go to Lafayette Coney Island. Get a Coney dog with it all, and if you want another thing Detroit to go with it, a Vernor's along with it.

Also Fishbones is a good place too. But if you have a day or so too, I say just wander around downtown so you can take a bunch of it in.
