Trade Ian White?

i really think we should trade him now while we can get somethin decent i think were gonna be really dissapointed this season and realize he only had a good year because of lidstrom

he was +23 this season and prior to that never went in the double digits in the last 3 seasons he played for 5 teams

I would much rather take a chance on like justin schultz and give him a guaranteed spot to start the season ... give him a 20 game trial at the least instead of risking losing him to another team who will guarantee him a spot , hes suppose to be a cant miss where as white i think will be gone after next year .... even if we cant land schultz id still trade white , hes highly overrated in my eyes

no way i know quincey has struggled but i think he'll have a bounce back year , i think hes a better defensemen overall i really cant see ian white coming back after the next season he just looked good cause of lidstrom

I would much rather guarantee schultz a spot on the team and put him with smith if it meant losing him to another team and getting rid of white to make it happen

It's just not going to happen. The Wings don't guarantee rosters spots, especially to someone who has never played a professional-level game.... It doesn't matter how good he's "projected" to be, it just won't happen. The kid is going to have to come here ready to battle for a spot, and if he is as good as people make him out to be, he'll be on the roster.

While I can see the value in trading White, I would only see him being traded in a multi-player deal for someone who improves the team. White is a solid d-man, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well he does this upcoming season.

Same can be said for Quincey, I'm not as high on him, but I am willing to give him a shot and see how he performs with a full season and being used to his linemates and the Wings playing style. He showed he can play a pretty damn good game in LA and Colorado, so we'll see.

This is in no way to be taken as me saying we shouldn't take a run at Schultz... I think we'd be foolish not to, but there are 29 other teams doing the same and I'm sure many who will guarantee him a spot, regardless of whether we do or not.

White is a known commodity, where as Schultz has yet to play an NHL game. I don't think it would be a very smart move on Kenny's part to weaken even more, an already weak defense, just to pander to some snot nosed kid who demands that he starts for an NHL team. You earn your spot with your play in Detroit. If you don't want to buy into the system, there is not much of a future for you as a player here. This, of course, is just my opinion.

To be fair, I don't think the kid has come out and said anything to that effect... I think that's just what fans are saying to entice him to go here rather than there.

Why would we get rid of white again? I must of missed something...

Just speculation that we could get rid of White to guarantee Schultz a spot in the lineup.... silliness is all you're reading.

i just think white is highly overrated and not that good , lidstrom just made him look better than he was and i can see alot of people complaining about him this season , hes been with 5 teams last 3 seasons ... theres a reason for that

The only reason he didnt stay a shark was because they needed to free up room for burns, with that being said white has been stuck on s***ty 'd' teams intill san jose where he did well. Thus i see no reason as to getting rid of him he has done well here and continue what he has done the last 2 years.

Not sure trading White would be the best idea. He had his best year as an NHLer playing with Lids and a lot of it is due to playing with him, but he also got better as the year progressed playing with him and looked to learn a lot from Nick. I think he could be a good D partner to pass the education he got last year down to Smith. I, like dirtydangles would rather see Quincey go and get a 1st and 3rd as compensation. Also http://www.nesn.com/2012/06/report-ryan-suter-wants-to-stay-in-west-as-nashville-defensemans-desired-destinations-dont-include-a.html Suter doesn't want to go east and may already be planning on signing with the Wings. Let's forget about Schultz right now who apparently wants to play for a Cdn team, possibly Tor or Edm, so we'll take him off the table. That still leaves us with Suter, Kronwall, White, Ericsson, Kindl, and Smith. Try to sign Garrison, Wideman or Carle and sign DeKeyser after his next season in college, also at the same time, White's contract expires but we get a valuable year of service from him. I think Kindl is also RFA after next season. Re-sign cheap or let him walk and take a pick from who signs him. Things aren't as bad as they seem around here. There's some good dmen that can be had without giving anything up.

As most others have said, the Wings are totally capable of upgrading their D without trading White. Obviously, Suter is the top priority but I'd love to see Matt Carle sign with Detroit and would feel pretty good about a defense with White, Suter, Kronwall, and Carle.

I can't imagine why the Red Wings would trade him, sure his value is high - and anyone who plays with Lids will be better - but it's not like we signed some schmuck or career AHLer who lucked out. White outperformed career numbers, sure, but he's still a valuable piece of this team.

Regardless of what people think of him, we are already down 2 dmen, we can't afford to get rid of another one unless we have a replacement lined up. Who are we going to replace him with, Kindl? As it is, I'm worried about the Lidstrom and Stuart replacements.

That's one way to look at it, you could also argue that that 4 teams thought enough of him to ask for him in a trade or to sign him as a FA.

He's also the only RH shooting defenceman we have right now. I don't really think we should be trading or losing any of our D-men at this point but if we had to I'd be looking to deal Kindl or Quincey.

I agree.

What happens when White is traded and Schultz decides to sign elsewhere? The Wings d is weak right now, and no UFA's are certain to sign with the Wings.

The UFA d-man class is small, and prices will likely be high. Trading White while counting on an uncertain replacement would not be smart.

Like stated, bottom line is that he's not going to be traded. We are hurting on the back end as it is already. Unless we include him in a trade for someone upgraded from his play then he will be in a Wings uniform. I don't think he was all that bad, and his cap hit is nice so he'll be here this year.

not saying to trade white right now before anyone is here , but if say schultz signed with us id get rid of white after .... id sign sutter and another ufa defensemen or trade for one and then trade white .... im not saying trade white for nothing , once we get schultz and/or then trade white

IMHO Ian White is a respectable #3/#4 Dman in this league, and right now we are much better off keeping him than send him packing (even if Schultz were to sign in Detroit these next few weeks).

White's also making less than Ericsson, and I think it's pretty safe to say that White is the better of the 2...Now moving Ericsson ,or Kindl would make more sense if Holland had the itch, but even then we're better off keeping all our Dmen (including a multi year deal with Quincey) since there's this thing called the injury bug - ya never know when it'll hit.

Even if White moves on when his contract is up, the thought of dealing him now is beyond ridiculous. As if losing arguably the greatest defenseman of all time wasn't catastrophic enough, then we lose another extremely valuable member of our top four within a few weeks....and now, you want to move another part of our top 4?

I don't care if we lose him for nothing next year, with no guarantee that Kenny will be able to sign any top-end free agents in a couple weeks, turning over yet another top-four defensive player this off-season might actually make this team struggle to be better than a 7-seed in the West.

i just dont think hes that valuable at all , hes a 5-6 in my eyes... time will tell

White is our #2 D-man right now. Trading him would be a HORRIBLE move without a GUARANTEED and BETTER replacement waiting.

#2???? f*ck if ian white is our #2 d man then we got more problems than i thought
