Guest Johnz96 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Honestly, right now Holland needs to throw the wallet at Suter.....10 years $90M...Suter is a MUST! It's our glaring need and Holland will need to overpay him to secure his services for the rest of his career! That would be the truth about the start of our decline. Suter is a poor man's Lidstrom he is not worth more than $7mill Edited June 28, 2012 by Johnz96
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 With options declining, prices will go up. Not necessarily. If only 2 or 3 teams can afford a player like Suter, for example, Wideman's signing doesn't affect those teams or his price. But 8.5 is just a million or so higher than we expected. IllinoisRedWingsFan 49 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 Good! I am not losing sleep over this one. I would have gone postal if he signed with the Wings.

KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 Let`s thank Calgary for two reasons: Reason 1: Signing a Widerman, like that we would avoid getting him. Reason 2: Overpaying and destroying the market now ...
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 Honestly, right now Holland needs to throw the wallet at Suter.....10 years $90M...Suter is a MUST! It's our glaring need and Holland will need to overpay him to secure his services for the rest of his career! LOL I love your overreactions. $9 mil to a defenseman that's never even been nominated for a Norris? That's a bit much. Every year at this time, people (fans, GMs, coaches, media, etc) get so wrapped up in doing whatever it takes to land the big name free agent that they forget the goal isn't to win free agency, its to win the Cup. Buffalo threw a ton of money around last year and the media praised their moves. Then they missed the playoffs. Throwing that much money at one player really isn't good for the team. Sure, you get the guy you need and you "win" free agency, but what happens if he pulls a Derian Hatcher and blows out his knee in the first month? Anyways, my point of posting in this thread was about Jay Bouwmeester being our Plan B should Suter not sign with the Wings for a reasonable amount. I remember a couple off seasons ago I made a case saying that Jay-Bo would be a nice fit for the Wings and quoted his Forecaster profile... Has incredible skating ability, a keen sense of when to join the rush, size and hockey smarts. A capable shutdown defender, he can log huge minutes. That seems like a good fit for here and at just $6.6 mil, less than the lowest amount we believe Suter can be signed for. Plan C should be Keith Yandle. Phoenix is having money problems and is shopping him around apparently. He's a $5.25 cap hit. So for $11.9 mil, we could have Jay-Bo and Yandle. Seems like a much better deal than Suter for $9 mil. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 Bit of an overpayment for a guy who is a defensive liability specialist.
