Throw Cleary and the obligatory bag of pucks in and we have a deal.

I honestly think Cleary is going to have a bounce back year... he takes a lot of flack, but the guy plays with a lot of heart, you can never have too much of that and I'll give him a pass for his last season due to the knees... now, if he has another year like last, then, fair enough, we need to start talking about him moving on...

No way i'd trade that much for those two. Bouwmeester is overrated and Iginla is nearing the end of his career. Neither one is worth their cap hit either.

Boumeester would fit our style amazingly, and I think would flourish here, Iginla is on the last year of his deal, and he'd bring a lot of fire for a cup, plus a toughness and a bonafide scorer in the league (not to mention PP specialist)

With that said, maybe dial back the picks to one, but I think this deal would favor us, not Calgary to be honest, even with the two picks...

I just don't think Calgary would take it, that's why I don't think it would happen...

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have Iginla. I'm tired of seeing all our first round picks get traded.

Blue is that you?=)

I have always wanted Iginla but that sure is a lot to give up.

You dirty bastard, haha :)

I agree it'd be steep, but you got to give to get...

Fair enough, I wonder if we could get it done on players and prospects alone... you bring up a very valid point about the picks

That is a terrible trade for the Wings.

We trade a 25-30 goal scorer with one of the best value contracts in the league, our highest draft pick of the past 20 years and the rights to a 25-40pt defenceman.

We get back a 33 yr old former superstar who will produce slightly more than Franzen for almost twice the caphit, and a defenceman who has not played a single playoff game in his 9 years in the NHL, who produces no more than the player we are giving up for him despite receiving a paycheck worth more than double, and then you want us to add draft picks on top of that?

I like Iginla but that kind of package is more suited for landing Malkin, Ovechkin or Crosby than it is for Iggy.

While I may have shot too high in the interest of trying to not look at the trade with red colored glasses on, you are WAY over valuing our pieces in the deal... You have to give to get and Iginla and Boumeester are both very valuable assets...

Also, Iggy still put up over 30 goals last year...

I know we'd have to give to get, but has anyone in the history of the game ever been swapped for 3 roster players, and 2 first round picks?

Especially for a 33 year old who has only 1 year left on his deal and a defenceman that is offered up in every trade proposal involving the Flames because he's been nothing but a disappointment?

I openly admitted that I may have shot too far in the other direction in attempts to not be a homer... So take away the picks and/or change them, I still think this trade would make sense for both parties...

I'd take Giordano over Bouwmeester and any NHL player over Semin but other than that it's a solid looking lineup.

Being kinda sarcastic about Semin but my fellow Semin haters get where i'm coming from. :)

We don't need first round picks anyway, we get our talent in the late rounds.

I don't think Calgary would move Gio, but I'd be down with that too...

As for the picks, well played, haha :)

I'm going to call you out here, but in fairness this is a gripe that I have with almost every line thread on this site. That's my disclaimer to here goes...

Drew Miller is a MUCH better forward than Justin Abdelkader. By almost every measure he out performs Abby. I like Abby, I want him on the team and all. But why is Miller always the odd man out on these line combos? I certainly hope it's not because "Abby's a big bodied guy and one of the few on the team that is physical" because he really isn't that big, or that physical. Please explain your rationale for me.

Again, I'm only calling you out because this is the most recent time I've seen this, but you're by no means the only person who's done it.

Darth Miller just doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

Re-read my post, those weren't line suggestions, that was merely for formatting, whoever earns the time gets it as far as I'm concerned... I don't play the line suggestion game...

Fair enough, the way you wrote it made it look like Miller and Mursak listed as the 13th and 14th forwards, and I clearly didn't read the disclaimer above the layout. My bad for jumping to conclusions.

Bouwmeester is crap for what he's paid. He can skate fast. Yay. Not worth it.

Not that this is NHL 2013 nor would Columbus accept a bunch of junk, but I would love to acquire Nash somehow, along with getting rid of Franzen, Cleary, Mursak, Emmeton, Kindl, a prospect or two and draft picks... Man if some kind of combo of those players/picks would get Nash here, I would be on cloud 900! With the open spots we have now an then dumping Franzines and Cleary's salary, we could add Parise/Meuller/Semin along with having Nash....ya ya, total fantasy world, I know, but wow that would send a message to the NHL!

edit: nah, nevermind, I cannot fit all those guys under the Cap on capgeek....but if we lost out on the Parise sweeps and still acquired Nash we could get Semin and Meuller and Garrison and Suter...

also for some odd reason, I go to "cap calculator" on capgeek and Parise is not listed under NJD as a UFA....

so I came up with this crazy roster! (I only brought Sproul up because he was the next highest D on the prospects list....I let Quincey walk and I traded Kindl)

FORWARDS

Alexander Semin ($5.500m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)

Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.000m)

Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Peter Mueller ($2.750m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)

Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Brandon Prust ($1.200m)

Justin Abdelkader ($1.250m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) /

DEFENSEMEN

Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($8.000m)

Ian White ($2.875m) / Jason Garrison ($0.985m)

Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)

Ryan Sproul ($0.925m) /

GOALTENDERS

Jimmy Howard ($2.250m)

Al Montoya ($0.875m)

------

SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,180,833; BONUSES: $320,000

CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,019,167
