Bobby Ryan

The only thing is that Ryan's price will be much higher than Nash was. Murray can deal him to any team because Ryan does not have a no trade clause. Still, I'd give up Flip, Nyquist and a 1st to get a deal done. I'd be willing to give up Mule but I doubt Murray would want him.

Should be enough to get either Nash or Ryan, just hope Murray isn't dumb like Howson.

Fil, Nyquist, 1st is way to much. Fil alone is almost worth Ryan other than his contract length currently.

Strongly disagree on both counts.

Bobby Ryan is exactly what we need (and have needed, for eons). Look at our top-6; we can afford to lose a couple soft skilled Euro playmakers, especially if it's for a guy like Ryan. As for the pick - we just gave one up for Quincey. You can't do it for Kyle Quincey and then not do it for Bobby Ryan. Besides, it's not like there's a strong possibility that that pick might be a Ryan-caliber player.

Balls to the walls for this one.

You think they would trade him to a western conference team? I think it is more likely they move him to the east. I don't think many GMs want to work with/help Detroit get better

That's been part of the problem this summer, and I think a big reason why the Wings have been unsuccessful both in trade and in free agency. Nashville wouldn't trade with the Wings, Columbus wouldn't trade with the Wings, and I have serious doubts, barring a tremendous overpayment, that the Ducks would ever play ball with the Wings. Teams out East are just as interested and it beats playing them 4 to 6 times a season.

The Wings are still in the hunt, but their trade partners seem willing to wait for anyone but the Wings to make a substantial offer. Then again, that could be foil-hat paranoia (are the walls closing in, or is it just me?).

I keep hearing that Anaheim loves Flip... is this true or not? If that's the case, I say you package a deal to them that includes Filppula, Tatar, and a 1st rounder....

Ducks are known to be asking for a 2nd line center, and Filppula may be one of the best in the league in that slot. Whether they would be willing to take him as a rental and still consider it full-value remains to be seen. I'm a huge fan of Val, great talent and great work ethic. In a perfect world, the Ducks would take him plus plus, be unable to sign him, and the Wings would bring him back to play with Ryan next summer :)

Reason #138 why I wish the NHLPA hadn't treated realignment like a stupid bargaining chip for CBA negotiations. Anaheim and Detroit don't geographically need to be in the same division, conference, or anything, but they still are...

I don't feel strongly like Bobby Ryan gets traded here. This has been the most humbling offseason for Detroit that I can remember as a Wings fan. The only other time I recall feeling close to this was in '03 when Colorado landed Kariya and Selanne on pay cuts. But that was pre-lockout, and it also turned out not to make Colorado any significantly better.

Wings fans need to stop taking out their sense of entitlement on Holland. There are 29 other teams in the league, and free agents don't necessarily go ga-ga over the Winged Wheel, as once might have been the case. I think the Samuelsson and Tootoo moves are highly questionable, but there is ZERO evidence that any negligence or carelessness by Holland had anything to do with not landing Suter, Parise, or Nash. This team has lacked tradeable young talent for years by virtue of the fact that we (a) have been pretty darn good and had crappy draft position; (b) end up trading our picks at the deadline often anyway. The NHL system for acquiring talent is set up to cause teams like the Red Wings to slowly regress over time. That is by DESIGN. We need to find the next wave of stars, but nobody "owes" it to us to trade with them. In fact, many teams/GM's likely resent the level of success Detroit has had over the years, and do not wish to be complicit in facilitating our future success.

This is as high as I would go. Period. top 6 Centers are worth more to teams than top 6 wingers. Albeit Ryan is a better winger than fil is at centre at this point but regardless we are adding significant assets in Tatar and a 1st. Thats more than fair. Its no secret that we need a RH top line winger, its no secret the Anaheim needs a 2C. Ryan is leaning towards the door. I'd maybe add a late round pick if it had to be done.

That's the only way i would be ok with Flip going there in a trade is if he was UFA next summer and could come back. I would really like to see him stay a Wing though. I'd rather see Franzen and Tatar for Ryan, maybe throw in a 2nd.

Don't be a fool, it takes two parties to trade and you can't force your way into a trade, if the other team isn't willing to talk, it's not an option... neither is raining cash on a FA, until they "see things your way" this is not the pre-cap world... you don't cripple your team in the long term for a MINOR short term upgrade... stop being so short sighted...

.......Are you serious?

Just curious: what part of his response is baffling you?

I'm guessing it's the "minor short term upgrade."

Ryan's contract is three more years and he's been a 30+ goal four years running now. He's big and goes hard to the net, which is exactly what the Wings need.

It's not like Detroit would be adding a franchise player, but "minor upgrade" is underselling it a bit.

Guest Hatethedrake!

Ryan would be a nice addition for sure. However the way things seem to be going, it doesn't look like Kenny will do much more than he has. I think he trades for Lilja and re-signs Abs and that's about it.

For the record, the minor upgrade comment was not in regards to Ryan, it was to the posters attitude that Holland has done nothing, when minor upgrades have been all that have been available thus far... With that said, I have said and maintain that Ryan would be a great addition, but we haven't lost out on him and he's still an option, but let's see things play out first...

I'm saying, Come on, Kenny, no more trying. Time to deliver, bro! He's taking issue with it because it's unrealistic. I wasn't actually calling Holland out or throwing a tantrum or what have you. I know how trades and FA signings work; I realize it's not simply a matter of "just doing it." So why did I say it? I dunno, why do we yell at the Wings through the TV and demand that they "JUST PUT THE PUCK IN THE NET ALREADY!!!"?

Also, I was wondering who he was referring to as a minor short-term upgrade. Bobby Ryan? If so, that's all kinds of wack.

Ah.

I had scrolled back to try and clarify if that's what you meant and figured it was referring specifically to Ryan. Sorry. My bad.

I actually went to Pinckney High School and graduated in '08. Bobby Ryan definately went to Pinckney High. His name wasn't Bobby though, he had a different name because he was having some issues withh his father, so it was for his families protection. I remember (unfortunately) he got made fun of a lot by the egotistical "jock kids" (aka just a bunch of self-conscious d-bags). They thought he was "weird", but in reLity he was just quiet is all. I've heard the rumors of him playing for the Wings, but when I think back to my experience in high school, it makes me a bit skeptical. NOT saying that that will be the deciding factor, but on the other hand, who wants to play where a bunch of assholes used to rip on you? All and all he is a great person and athlete, and i'd love for him to play here.

Yeah, the story went public a few years ago I believe. Here's one of them and I swear MLive did one also that was shorter but detailed.

I went to pinckney. He went under the name Bobby Stevenson. He went to pinckney during the 02-03 year. He was in my science class. I actually helped him spy on his girlfriend LOL. If you did graduate in 08 then you technically weren't in school with him, but what you mention is accurate. A lot of people gave him s*** but at the same time he acted like a bit of a prick.

I was gonna say--Bobby Ryan is a little older than 22

Yeah I personally didn't know the kid, just knew the douches the used to rip on him. I wouldn't blame Ryan for being a prick, those guys that used to rip on him were complete D-bags. Hahaha that's funny you helped him spy on his gf, I need to find a yearbook now and do some creepin'.

Then I need to ask you, would someone not go play in a town JUST because a few losers ripped on him in the past? I'd honestly like to think not, I mean, seeing as business is business. Besides, when your raking in multi-millions I would assume those little grudges just dissolve into your pile of cash.

I would purposely sign with the team just so they would have to watch me every night and imagine it was them. #toobadsosad
