Sorry, I think this is overpayment for a slightly better than average goalie. Howard > Price.

I do think Price is a bit better than Howard, although I agree with the rest: definite overpayment.

Really guys ... you think Price at 6.5m/yr is better than Howie at 2.25m/yr? I'm shocked.

Statistically, Howie is better than Price. Howie ripped it up last season ... where was Price? Since 2009,

2009 37-15

2010 37-17

2011 35-17

He gets twice as many W as L ...

It's Detroit, people don't know goalies.

If you factor in salary, obviously you have a better deal with Howard. But in terms of comparing them as players, I do think Price is better. He's put up pretty good numbers on a bad team. If Howard was in Montreal, I personally don't feel that his numbers would be as good as Price's.

Regular season career:

Price: .916 SV%, 2.56 GAA For

Howard: .917 SV%, 2.41 GAA.

Pretty similar numbers, but Montreal is...Montreal. It's certainly close.

In this salary cap world, of course you have to compare players in terms of stats, skills, and their contract.

Having said that, their career stats are pretty close. Hands down for Howie if you figure out winning %. Price at .471%, Howie at .601%

Agreed. But that's why I said:

Saying someone is "better" = more skilled. "A better deal" = better value of skill/$.

To be clear, I prefer our goaltending situation to Montreal's.

Any way I can convince you that skill wise, Howie > than Price :colgate:
