Don't like Carle, and while it would be nice to have cap room next year, there are other ways of doing that (signing/trading for one year deals, etc) other than taking our ball and going home.

Yeah but what about actually seeing what kind of talent we already have. Seeing what works for the future instead of signing some guys as plan b that might be a waste of money.

Sure no one can say that with 100 % certainity but after the Ryan fiasco, do you honestly believe they wanna spend their whole career on a team with an internal cap. Both are easily good enough to play for an Original Six franchise with money to spend.

I fear that I brought this thread into existence with my baseless prediction in another thread that Holland gets Semin and Carle instead of Parise and Suter.

 - not a chance...Just prior to Lids retirement, and Stewie's rights being traded I claimed it was a slim chance that either Suter, or Parise would get signed by Detroit.

Honestly - this being dragged out - I'm losing interest in both; will either player live up to the salary, or the expectations?..Me thinks not, and by dragging this out by both of them only makes me think that they're not worth it, and Holland should pursue "plan B" - as in sign Carle, and either trade for Ryan , or sign Semin for a few years.

EDIT - in a weird way this is reminding me of last season with "Wiz".

That lineup is worse than last season.

What makes you think we'd get out of the first round?
According to my profile, my reputation is excellent. LOL.

There's no way their gonna win it all with Semin and Carle. Carle's no Lidstrom and Semin decides sometimes he feels like playing.

Regardless if we get Suter or not Holland has made some nice moves at the forward position without really investing too much money. If Brunner shows he can play in the big league a third line of Bertuzzi-Helm-Brunner gets me all sorts of excited.

What makes you think this line up would make the playoffs?

Regressed badly in defense with only a minor upgrade in offense? There is no way with that defense Detroit goes very far, and saying they may not even make the playoffs is not a stretch.

Detroit needs to do something quick or this offseason is a lost cause.
Think for yourself. Question authority. Throughout human history as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are or where we are going in this ocean of chance, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself.

I think Babs would be pissed at Helm not centering the 3rd line since he said last week that Helm is the best 3rd line centre in the game bar none. As for Semin and Carle...I would not be pissed. Would I see this team still being able to compete for the Cup? Maybe. Win it? Things would really have to go their way for that to happen.

I agree about Helm,he belongs on the third line.I also believe it would really great if they could win the cup without the big free agents you'all say they need. Also I like Semin on Pav's line and I wonder if removed from Ovechkin's shadow if we wouldn't see a different Semin?

This is the best I could salvage without Parise and Suter:
1) Trade Filppula, Cleary, White, 1st for Yandle
2) Sign Semin, Mueller, Carle

Could hold us over until Weber becomes available next season.

I don't want Carle, we will need to overpay big time to get him... What Detroit needs is Right Hand Def, with some size... what about Franson, he's still available for the right price....

Franson isn't better than Kindl. Having a RH dman isn't worth bringing poor dmen in. We could trade for Enstrom instead of Yandle but I think Yandle is all around better and younger.

i know were in the sh*t! but dont go crazy and throw away 5 million for 5-6 years on a carle i would rather save the money for shea weber next season !

i would suggest maybe even giving up the 4 1st round picks and like going crazy and throwing a 110 million 12 yr deal to weber and high signing bonus but why risk it that nashville matches and we lose the chance at him next year possibly

point is i hope we dont go crazy and overpay carle as tough as our situation is

maybe take a chance on overpayed boumweester?? at least its only 2 years and he does play 20-25 minutes a game
