Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

I want doan and semin more than overpaying Parise. I'm very willing to overpay suter though. Then make a trade for Yandle. We have too many forwards I think flippula is expandable on this team and we will get high value. Franzen is a perennial 30 goal scorer with low cap hit he's more useful on this team like it or not

Ohh shuckey duckey. Have a beer on this one. It's a matter of living in a good neighborhood for a family too. All they have to do is buy a small airplane and a boat and a summer home and Detroit is just as good as any other place. #sweetenthedeal

Flip gives the Wings security at center. If Z or Dats are injured, he is the only player on the Wings roster that can fill in as a top-6 center. As the Hawks showed this year, depth at center is very important.

I don't see Yandle coming here. I think that would be the kind of player it would take to pry Bobby Ryan out of Anaheim (or vice-versa, depending on how you look at it). He would be great, but I don't think Filppula would get the job done, and I'm not sure parting with him and the additional assets it would take would be worth it.

Considering that the Wings made an offer to Sami Salo in addition to Suter, I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking to fill the need for a right handed shot, ideally with some size, who can play D responsibly and move the puck a bit too. If they're looking for the big shot ala Salo, I could see Pavel Kubina filling that role. I could also see Michal Rozsival getting an offer, and I wouldn't mind that, as he can log big minutes and would help us slot our remaining D's where they should be.

Wow, a lot of anger here. I don't think Suter has done anything remotely wrong. If I had ~20 job offers, maybe five of them being exceptional, I would sure as hell take the time to make a well-rounded decision. These guys are only going to get this chance once and their choice is likely going to be their home for the rest of their playing careers. It has only been a couple days and there are so many factors to consider.

If Suter wants to be a Red Wing, it will happen. I'm confident that will ultimately be the case.

We're getting a little arrogant here, in my opinion. The guy's making a huge decision and taking a few days to do it. A lot of the fans here are coming off like spoiled brats.

"The how dare he take some time to decide, we're the Red Wings" attitude is unbecoming.

Wow people are still getting angry at players for taking their time? How would you feel if you have 25 job offers with some exceptional ones? Personally I would take all my time to ask my wife, family, friends and agents about the pro/cons of either city, the team, coach and trying to phone a couple of players how it is to play for my destinated team and then go through the list.

Let them take their time, I am almost everyone of us would do the same.

Yes, people are f***in mad that these dumbasses act like they did no f***in planning before July 1 at all. July 1st ain't the f***in' time to start researching schools and neighborhoods and asking your wife.

This whole watching and waiting is making me go insane, the worst part as a preds fan,i may have to go through this again if shea weber hits market next july, can't imagine the offers he is going to get

Weber might get even more ridiculous offers but both are worth it.

I'm guessing it's been mentioned in this thread already but in case it hasn't, according to a retweet by Dreger, the Wild also met with Suter today.

#redwings weren't only team to meet w Suter today. #MNWild owner Craig Leipold, GM Chuck Fletcher & coach Mike Yeo just landed from Madison

It's incredibly frustrating waiting around like this as a fan, but I know if I was making a decision that involved millions and millions of dollars and affected the next decade or more of my life, I might want to sleep on it a bit.

20 plus teams interested, none of which are allowed to even hint at what the deal might be prior to July 1.

How exactly can they be expected to research neighborhoods and schools on that many markets when they don't even know where the serious offers are coming from? Sure they have some idea, but all the offers were all going to be in the same ballpark. There's a ton of variables besides dollar amounts.

Like I said, it's frustrating as a fan, but I've taken longer to decide on jobs that I've taken, and they involved a tiny fraction of the money and length that we're talking about here.

Why are they obligated to decide right on July 1st? Because we are anxious as fans?

Besides, they had no certainty where the offers would come from until two days ago. Both guys are nothing but professional on and off the ice by all accounts. I think it's absurd how mad people are getting that they haven't made one of the biggest choices in their lives on a whim.

With 90Million on the table he would have already signed if he wanted to play for the Wings. It's pretty obvious he doesn't want to be here and if he does sign it's for the money.

Not obvious at all... Flyers offered the most he would have signed there already. It shows he wants to play in Detroit but is flexing us for some more money. He is going to sign here but were gonna have to raise the offer one more time

There is no doubt in my mind that researching neighborhoods and schools has nothing to do with waiting to make a decision. If a guy picks a team, he calls up the Captain or another one of his teammates and asks them where to live. It's not like these guys are on a team that is relocating. If Suter or Parise signs with Detroit, they call one of the Red Wings with a wife and kids and get the info in 15 minutes. Shoot, if my company wanted to relocate me to another office they'd have resources available to me to help choose where to live.
